Job Description

AECOM is seeking an Entry Level Civil/Structural Engineer to be based in Virginia Beach, VA.

As an Entry Level Engineer, you will work, as part of project teams, to develop a range of engineering scheme solutions from initial concept through to detailed design for implementation and support roles on construction supervision contracts. This is a diverse role that will involve your contribution and insight to the support the effective delivery of a current portfolio of projects and bids for new work as part of an existing team of engineers.

The Virginia Beach office has an established track record of successfully delivering maritime services to port owners/operators, contractors and transportation agencies, government agencies. Our maritime experience includes port planning, port economics and due diligence, engineering and design, construction supervision for local and global clients.

This position is expected to begin January 2025.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Undertaking design and planning activities on maritime projects - container terminals, mining/bulk, oil/gas, marinas, ports and harbors, coastal defense and development schemes.
  • Prepare engineering related calculations and develop drawings and visual aids.
  • Assisting with project & technical management.
  • Occasional short to medium term site visits may also become necessary depending on project requirements.
  • Maritime design and planning, including maritime codes/standards such as USACE, PIANC, and OCIMF.
  • Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is required for this role. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering would be an advantage.
  • Demonstrable interest in developing a career in Ports & Marine Engineering.
  • Enthusiastic, hard-working, technically proficient, with ambition and drive.
