Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a Civil Engineering CAD Designer for immediate employment in Kitchener, ON. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of civil engineering technology, be proficient using Civil 3D CAD software, be proficient using surveying equipment including GPS and total station, and have proven experience in the surveying/design/inspection of municipal infrastructure. They will be expected to work within a team environment and be able to communicate effectively with other project team members and customers. They will have a high level of initiative, motivation, and display drive, energy and enthusiasm for getting things done. The successful candidate will be expected to support in the delivery of infrastructure to customers primarily within the municipal water, wastewater and stormwater sector.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Design for municipal infrastructure using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and MicroStation
  • Road reconstruction, land development, stormwater management and site plan design
  • Lot grading design, surveying, and inspection/certification
  • Working on complex data sets in conjunction with other CAD and GIS technical staff
  • Ensuring overall data quality and integrity
  • Prepare civil design drawings and design calculations
  • Prepare quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for civil projects
  • Prepare documentation for design projects and reports
  • Undertake quality control procedures
  • Assures that engineering related issues are promptly relayed to the Project Manager for action and follows up to assure timeliness of resolution efforts
  • Occasional construction site inspection

 

 

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology (or equivalent)
  • 2+ years of related experience in municipal civil engineering CAD/ design
  • Design experience with surface grading, watermain, sewer pipe networks, and detailed design
  • Experience working with AutoCAD and Civil 3D
  • Experience performing topographic surveys using a variety of surveying equipment including GPS and total station
  • Certified or eligible for certification as a C.E.T. and a member of the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors and clients
  • Comfortable working in a multi-disciplinary environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Civil 3D 2016 to current versions.
  • Bentley Microstation V8i
  • Experience creating base plans from collected survey data
  • Experience working with GIS data
  • Experience working with scanning technology (LIDAR, photogrammetry, etc.) and point clouds
  • Experience in road reconstruction design, land development, lot grading, stormwater management
  • Experience with quantity take-offs and cost estimating
  • Good time management skills
  • Construction inspection experience
