Job Description

Are you a Satellite Communication Specialist with a background in the military or private company? If you are looking for a new and exciting role, this could be for you!!

In this role, you will provide support for Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) deployed and domestic satellite equipment and services, as well as identifying, cataloguing and maintaining configuration control in the DND supply system of the military material used in the IM Group.

Some of the duties will include, but will not be limited to:

  1. Assist the technical authority with the tracking of CAF equipment, the development of maintenance objectives and verification of implementation procedures.
  2. Create technical documentation to clarify engineering requirements, configuration details and network design for equipment.
  3. Diagnose, test and repair SATCOM and PBX equipment, using the latest state-of the art electronic theory, techniques and practices in a professional corporate satellite communication environment.
  4. Review, evaluate and report to the technical authority on the condition of DND Canadian Switched Network systems and corporate telecommunication equipment.
  5. Provide written and verbal recommendations on disposal, retention and upgrading of CSN and satellite equipment while using DND sites to verify stock levels in different storage locations, using DRMIS.
  6. Monitor, verify and track that civilian report/overhaul contractors, responsible to maintain and repair CAF equipment are following technical specifications as outlined in the CAF guidelines.
  7. Provide advice and support to ensure the current technology continuity plans to the deployed, domestic and key bases are kept operational 24/7. This includes coverage for Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN), SATCOM and CSN, redundant SIP gateways and remote monitoring services.
  8. Work with the Technical Authority when required to secure equipment.
  9. Other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Must hold valid Secret level clearance
  • Must have 5 years experience within the last 7-10 years performing the following tasks:
    • diagnosing, testing, and repairing SATCOM equipment (for example: spectrum analyzer, Bit Error Rate Test, and power meters)
    • working with Crypto KG-175D and KIV-7M equipment
    • working with Government of Canada supply and cataloguing systems such as: CGCM/CGCS, FED LOG, CFSS and DRMIS or applicable equivalents such as the SAP Graphical User Interface and HTTP Interface
    • working with the Adtran Multiplexers, Nortel Meridian PBX and Newbridge Mux.
    • integrating and maintaining professional satellite communication systems, antennas, and cabling used to transmit sensitive or classified information
    • others that can be discussed with Recruiter

Additional Information

  • Technical Environment includes: MS Office 2010, Canadian Government Cataloguing System, SAP (Material Management module) and MS SharePoint
  • The work may require outside surveying, climbing ladders and scaffolds for planning and inspection purposes. The work may occur during extended hours with occasional exposure to harsh conditions when installing and maintaining equipment in field locations.
  • Retired military that worked as ATIS Technicians, SATCOM Specialists, and COMSEC Specialists could be a great fit for this role!
