Job Description

We’re seeking a BI & Data Governance Manager to enhance Business Intelligence as a coherent, trusted company capability. This role combines BI strategy and data product leadership with practical data governance (KPI definitions and stewardship, certified ‘gold’ assets, data quality routines and clear decision rights). You will enable faster, simpler and more reliable access to data, drive proactive decision enablement (self-service, insights and alerts), and build the governance foundations that support responsible AI deployment across the organisation. The role also owns practical governance across the full data lifecycle (policies and standards for data quality, access, security, retention and deletion) and helps minimise data risk in partnership with control functions.

The BI & Data Governance Manager will lead a small BI team and partner closely with business domain owners. You will also collaborate with control functions (Legal, Risk & Compliance, Information Security) to embed governance and AI-readiness across strategic initiatives.

The ideal candidate

You are a senior BI leader with a governance mindset who can set direction, simplify and standardise, and raise trust in metrics, while improving delivery speed and stakeholder experience. You balance ‘fast’ with ‘right’: strong operating model discipline and strong influence across business and technology stakeholders. You are comfortable owning ambiguity, creating a backlog and roadmap, and measuring outcomes such as adoption, time-to-find and reduced rework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define BI strategy & operating model: Set the BI vision and value proposition anchored on key business decisions; translate it into a prioritised multi-year roadmap with measurable outcomes.
  • Build trusted metrics & “single source of truth”: Establish KPI governance and maintain certified “gold” datasets and reports.
  • Design and embed the data governance framework: define Data Owner/Steward/Custodian roles and RACI; maintain metadata and lineage/traceability for certified assets.
  • Improve delivery speed & predictability: Run demand management from request to production; standardise requirements, templates and QA to reduce rework and cycle time.
  • Drive adoption through simplification & self-service (Tableau): Define UX/navigation standards, governed access and a clear “gold path”; rationalise redundant/low-use assets and run enablement to increase self-service adoption.
  • Enable proactive decision-making & AI readiness: Introduce monitoring/alerts for priority KPIs and an “insight-to-action” loop; prioritise and govern AI-ready datasets in partnership with other relevant teams.
  • Lead the BI team and cross-functional governance: Line-manage and develop the BI team; reduce single-point-of-failure risk via documentation and coverage; run lightweight governance forums with business owners and control functions.

Qualifications

Must have:

  • 7+ years of experience in BI / analytics, data management, or related roles; proven ownership of BI delivery and stakeholder-facing outcomes.
  • People leadership experience.
  • Hands-on experience defining KPIs/metrics and implementing governance (dictionary/glossary, ownership, change control).
  • Experience designing and implementing data governance policies/standards across the data lifecycle (quality, access, security, retention/deletion) and operationalising them in BI delivery and self-service.
  • Working knowledge of metadata management and data lineage, plus SQL/data querying literacy.
  • Experience improving delivery operating models and reducing rework/cycle time.
  • Strong Tableau experience (or comparable enterprise BI platform) and ability to drive UX consistency and self-service adoption.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills; ability to influence across business and technology teams.
  • Working knowledge of data privacy and security principles (e.g., GDPR, data retention) and experience partnering with Legal/InfoSec/Compliance.
  • Fluent in English.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with data catalog/metadata, lineage or governance tooling and/or data quality monitoring tools.
  • Familiarity with modern data platforms and analytics engineering concepts.
  • Experience supporting AI/ML use cases, AI readiness, or AI governance initiatives (data quality, access, traceability).
  • Consulting or transformation program experience (multi-stakeholder, cross-functional delivery).
