Data Analyst - Ranking & Sorting (all genders)
- Full-time
- Compensation: EUR 60000 - EUR 70000 - yearly
Company Description
ABOUT YOU is one of Europe’s fastest growing e-commerce companies. Based in Hamburg and Berlin, we operate at the intersection of fashion and technology. Our mission is to rethink online shopping and make it personal and seamless. This takes more than good ideas. It takes people who take initiative and challenge the status quo. We believe in flat hierarchies, direct communication, and pragmatic decisions. No long approval chains. Just ownership, trust, and clear responsibility. We work hard, but we also believe in enjoying the ride together - over team lunches, afterwork drinks, company events, or a quick coffee in between meetings. If this sounds like you, ABOUT YOU could be the right place to bring in your perspective.
Job Description
Our Ranking & Sorting team is responsible for deciding which products appear first across the ABOUT YOU platform. We continuously optimize the balance between customer relevance, business performance and sponsored product placement – shaping what millions of customers see when they shop with us.
As a Data Analyst, you will turn customer and product data into insights that help us improve our sorting system. You will work closely with Data Scientists, Engineers and Product Managers and have the opportunity to gradually move deeper into the modelling and engineering side of ranking as you grow in the role.
- Translate product and business objectives into meaningful KPIs such as revenue per visitor, CTR, AOV, conversion and sponsored product performance
- Build and maintain dashboards and analytical tools to monitor sorting performance, relevance and sponsored product delivery across categories
- Analyse customer behaviour, clickstream and conversion data to identify opportunities to improve ranking relevance and business performance
- Support the design, execution and analysis of A/B tests for ranking and boosting changes
- Investigate discrepancies between computed rankings and the products actually served to customers
- Work closely with Data Scientists, Engineers and Product Managers to turn analytical findings into improvements for our sorting system
- Identify opportunities to automate repetitive data processes and improve the team's efficiency
- Gradually take on more technical topics such as scoring logic, modelling or data pipelines, depending on your interests and development
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in Data Analytics, ideally in an e-commerce, product or other data-driven environment
- Strong SQL skills and practical experience using Python for data analysis or automation
- Experience working with a data warehouse such as BigQuery, Redshift, Databricks or a similar technology
- Familiarity with data visualisation tools such as Looker, Looker Studio, Power BI, Tableau or similar
- Experience working with tracking, clickstream or behavioural data; knowledge of GA4 is a plus
- Basic understanding of A/B testing and statistical significance, or a strong interest in developing these skills
- Strong analytical thinking, a good understanding of numbers and a structured approach to problem-solving
- Clear communication skills and the ability to make complex findings understandable to non-technical stakeholders
- A proactive and independent mindset with the ability to take ownership of topics and drive them forward
- Curiosity to go beyond traditional analytics and develop towards a Data Science or Data Engineering role
Nice to Have
- Hands-on experience with PySpark or other distributed data processing technologies
- Familiarity with machine learning, scoring models, ranking or search relevance
- Knowledge of GCP or AWS and technologies such as CI/CD or Docker
- Exposure to managed ML services such as BigQuery ML or Vertex AI
- Familiarity with statistical testing and experiment design
- Interest in e-commerce, marketplace ranking or sponsored products
