Background Information
Following the recent conflict emerged across the country, which has impacted millions of young people, we designed this programme to equip aspiring reporters with skills, knowledge, and experience they need to excel in journalism and promote truth, transparency, and social change.
The Young Reporters Fellowship in Sudan provides comprehensive training, hands-on experience, and mentorship to 25 young journalists each year in Sudan. Our programme covers essential topics such as multimedia storytelling, digital journalism, investigative reporting, and ethical journalism practices.
The Deputy Executive Director will be responsible for curriculum development, academic planning, faculty management, and ensuring the highest standards of educational delivery. This role requires a strong background in communications, extensive academic experience, and fluency in English.
Job Description
- Curriculum Development: Lead the design and continuous improvement of the fellowship curriculum, ensuring it meets the highest academic standards and aligns with the mission and goals of YRF.
- Academic Planning: Develop and implement academic policies, procedures, and schedules that facilitate effective programme delivery and maximize learning outcomes.
- Faculty Management: Recruit, train, and supervise faculty members and guest lecturers, fostering a collaborative and innovative teaching environment.
- Quality Assurance: Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the academic programme through regular assessments, feedback, and performance metrics, ensuring continuous improvement.
- Research and Innovation: Promote and support research initiatives and innovative teaching practices that enhance the learning experience and contribute to the field of journalism.
- Student Support: Provide academic guidance and support to fellows, addressing their individual learning needs and promoting their professional development.
- Collaboration: Work closely with the Executive Director and other senior staff to ensure the academic programme integrates seamlessly with the overall strategic vision of YRF.
- Reporting: Prepare detailed academic reports for the Executive Director and Board of Directors, highlighting achievements, challenges, and strategic recommendations.
Qualifications
- Education: Master’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Education, or a related field. A Ph.D. is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in academic administration, curriculum development, and faculty management, preferably in the media or higher education sector.
- Skills: Strong background in communications and journalism, with proven ability to develop and manage high-quality academic programmes. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are essential.
- Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead academic teams, manage complex projects, and drive educational excellence.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage and inspire faculty and students.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to think strategically, analyze academic challenges, and develop innovative solutions.
