Job Description

XP Power is seeking Electrical Engineers at various experience levels to join our Product Development team. Successful candidates will contribute to the design, development, validation, qualification, and lifecycle support of AC/DC and DC/DC power conversion products spanning a broad range of power and voltage levels.

Working within a collaborative cross-functional environment, engineers will participate in product development activities from concept definition and architecture selection through design, prototype evaluation, verification, qualification, and production release. The role also includes support for sustaining engineering initiatives such as product enhancements, component obsolescence management, cost reduction projects, and resolution of manufacturing and field-related technical issues.

Depending on qualifications, experience, and demonstrated technical expertise, candidates may be considered for either the Electrical Engineer or Senior Electrical Engineer level. Responsibilities, technical scope, and level of ownership will be aligned with the candidate's experience and capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

New Product Development

  • Design and develop AC/DC and DC/DC switch-mode power supplies utilizing a variety of power conversion topologies across multiple power and voltage ranges.
  • Participate in product architecture definition, topology evaluation, component selection, and design trade-off analysis.
  • Design, simulate, debug, and validate analog, digital, and mixed-signal circuits used in power conversion applications.
  • Perform circuit simulations, control loop analysis, tolerance analysis, component stress analysis, thermal evaluations, and reliability assessments.
  • Develop and evaluate prototypes, characterize product performance, and optimize designs to meet product requirements.
  • Develop and execute Design Verification Testing (DVT), qualification testing, and validation activities.
  • Collaborate with PCB Layout, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Test Engineering, and Quality Engineering teams to achieve Design-for-Excellence (DfX) objectives.
  • Participate in technical design reviews and contribute engineering recommendations throughout the product development process.
  • Prepare technical reports, qualification documentation, engineering change documentation, and product release packages.

Sustaining Engineering

  • Support released products through component obsolescence management, alternate component qualification, and supplier change activities.
  • Investigate and resolve manufacturing, qualification, and field-related technical issues using structured root-cause analysis methodologies.
  • Implement product improvements to enhance performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost competitiveness.
  • Support engineering change activities, product requalification efforts, and product lifecycle management initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Quality, and Customer Support teams to address customer and production-related technical challenges.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. Master's degree is an advantage.
  • Experience in power electronics, electrical design, product development, validation, or related engineering disciplines.
  • Knowledge of AC/DC and DC/DC switch-mode power supply topologies and power conversion principles.
  • Experience with circuit simulation, laboratory testing, debugging, and validation of electronic circuits.
  • Familiarity with mixed-signal circuit design and analysis.
  • Ability to execute engineering tests, collect and analyze data, and prepare technical reports.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within cross-functional engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing and developing power conversion products.
  • Familiarity with simulation tools such as LTspice, PSpice, SIMetrix, PSIM, or equivalent.
  • Experience using laboratory equipment including oscilloscopes, power analyzers, electronic loads, spectrum analyzers, and thermal measurement systems.
  • Knowledge of Design Verification Testing (DVT), DFMEA, reliability analysis, EMI/EMC, or thermal characterization.
  • Experience supporting product qualification, manufacturing, or sustaining engineering activities.
  • Understanding of control theory and its application to power electronics.
  • Experience with high-voltage and/or RF power systems is an advantage.

Additional Qualifications for Senior Electrical Engineer Consideration

Candidates may be considered for the Senior Electrical Engineer level based on demonstrated experience and technical capability, including:

  • Typically 6 or more years of relevant experience in power electronics design, development, or product engineering.
  • Proven ability to independently lead design activities, technical investigations, and product development projects.
  • Experience defining and executing validation strategies, qualification plans, and engineering test programs.
  • Strong understanding of power conversion topologies, control systems, reliability engineering, and product lifecycle management.
