Provide technical support for digital media teaching and research across design studios, practical classes and specialist facilities.

The Opportunity

Teaching & Research Technical Services is seeking a Senior Technical Support Officer, Digital Media to provide specialist technical support for teaching and research in Visual Communication and Design, with a particular focus on interactive digital media.

The Senior Technical Support Officer will support practical classes, laboratories and studios by preparing equipment, materials and teaching spaces, while assisting staff and students to use specialist technologies safely and effectively.

The role will support projects spanning interface design, digital publishing, web development, animation, app development and interactive design. This includes providing technical guidance across Adobe Creative Cloud applications, Figma, Unity 2D, C#, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Bootstrap, Apache web servers, phpMyAdmin and MySQL.

The Senior Technical Support Officer, Digital Media will also maintain digital media facilities, software, equipment and Unity project templates. Using sound judgement and practical problem-solving skills, the role will manage competing technical priorities, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and support safe, reliable learning and research environments.

What Success Looks Like:
Success in this role will be demonstrated through reliable technical service, well-managed digital media facilities and effective support for practical learning and research. This includes:

  • Delivering reliable technical support and instruction during digital media practical classes.
  • Maintaining well-prepared studios, teaching spaces, equipment and digital resources.
  • Supporting Unity 2D projects by maintaining templates and assisting with C# debugging.
  • Providing practical guidance across design, animation, web and app development tools.
  • Improving technical procedures, safety practices and service delivery across facilities.

About You
The successful candidate will combine broad digital media expertise with a practical, service-focused approach to supporting students, academic staff and research activity. The successful candidate will have:

  • An undergraduate degree in Visual Communication, Interactive Design or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of relevant education, training and experience.
  • Experience maintaining digital design or illustration studios and working with Unix-based server operating systems.
  • Strong capability across graphic design, illustration, UI/UX, animation and relevant Adobe Creative Cloud applications.
  • Applied knowledge of Unity, C#, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Bootstrap, Apache web servers, phpMyAdmin and MySQL.
  • Well-developed organisational, communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to explain technical methods to inexperienced users and manage competing priorities.
