Welthungerhilfe (WHH), founded in 1962, is today one of the biggest non-governmental aid and development agencies in Germany. The objective of the program in Uganda is to improve livelihoods of the most vulnerable population in rural areas through interventions that increase their Food and Nutrition Security, improve sustainable access to WASH services and support the employability of the youth through vocational and life skills training. We understand that livelihoods of the rural population in Uganda have improved in a sustainable way when people are able to meet their basic food needs, have access to clean drinking water and safe sanitation, live in a healthy environment and take up opportunities to earn and diversify a decent income.

Among Welthungerhilfe's project is the Green College Initiative. The Green College Initiative aims to strengthen the capacity of civil society organizations and social enterprises in the Kabarole and Kasese districts to become a competent local training center for the implementation of green skilling programs, provision of services and support to young "ecopreneurs". The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), implemented by Welthungerhilfe through partners and will end in December 2021.

Job Description

Welthungerhilfe Country Office is looking for a dynamic and team-oriented Project Manager who can work independently and contribute to further improving the quality of the Skills Development programme in the coming years. The successful candidate will be based in the Project Office in Fort Portal. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.

Tasks and Responsibilities of the Position:

  • Shall be responsible for management of assigned project in the Rwenzori Region in line with the rules and standards of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) as co-financing donor and Welthungerhilfe standards for the implementation of projects
  • Coordinates activities with partner organizations and Welthungerhilfe Country Office
  • Responsible for Building Capacity of local partners in Finance, Administration, HR, Logistics, Program Management, M&E etc.
  • Manages the project budget for WHH, and to support the Local Partners with their budget responsibilities, and ensure oversight of all spending
  • Manages staff according to Welthungerhilfe leadership principles, staff policies and Welthungerhilfe strategy
  • Ensures alignment of the project implementation with the Ugandan country strategy of Welthungerhilfe in the Skills Development sector
  • Expands Welthungerhilfe network with relevant stakeholders from civil society, government and development partners within the Skills Development sector

Qualifications

  • BSc / MSc in Education, Social Sciences or Project Management
  • Strong project management capacity in a Skills Development context (Planning, organizing, staffing, leading and controlling)
  • Proven experience as Head of Project for at least 3 years in a project of a similar scale and complexity
  • Proven experience of Skills Development project implementation, preferably with international organizations for at least 5 years
  • Proven knowledge in non-formal vocational skills training
  • Proven experience in working with partner organizations
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
  • Strong working knowledge in English (spoken and written)
  • Capacity to multi task and coordinate activities under pressure in urban and rural areas respectively
  • Knowledge of MEAL is an added advantage
