Job Description

The Psychologist will assess and evaluate individuals' problems through the use of case history, interview, and observation and provide individual or group counseling services to assist individuals in achieving more effective personal, social, educational, and vocational development and adjustment. Position will see primarily pediatrics. 

• Select, administer, and interpret psychological needs to assess intelligence, aptitudes, abilities, or interests;
• Consult with other professionals to discuss therapies, treatments, counseling resources, or techniques, and to share occupational information;
• Refer clients to specialists or to other institutions for non-counseling treatment or problems;
• Conduct research to develop or improve diagnostic or therapeutic counseling techniques;
• Advise clients on how they could be helped in counseling;
• Analyze data such as interview notes, test results, and reference manuals in order to identify symptoms, and to diagnose the nature of clients' problems;
• Collect information about individuals or clients, using interviews, case histories, observational techniques, and other assessment methods;
• Monitors and coordinates the delivery of health services for Patients as related to behavioral health care, including linking with other treatment providers not only within the primary care setting but, with the Patients’ permission, outside it as well;
• Documents the Patients’ progress and diagnostic information in the treatment chart;
• Counsel individuals, groups, or families to help them understand problems, define goals, and develop realistic action plans;
• Works, where indicated, to effect behavioral changes in Patients with, or at risk for, physical disorders and helps them make healthier lifestyle choices;
• Develop therapeutic and treatment plans based on clients interest, abilities and needs;
• Evaluate the results of counseling methods to determine the reliability and validity of treatments;
• Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources;
• Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems;
• Developing construction and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintaining them over time;
• Identifying the underlying principles, reasons, or facts of information by breaking down information or data into separate parts;
• Compiling, coding, categorizing, calculating, tabulating, auditing, or verifying information or data;
• Communicating with people outside the organization, representing the organization to customers, the public, government, and other external sources. This information can be exchanged in person, in writing, or by telephone or e-mail;
• Entering, transcribing, recording, storing, or maintaining information in written or electronic/magnetic form;
• Translating or explaining what information means and how it can be read;
• Keeping up-to-date technically and applying new knowledge to achieve them;
• Establishing long-range objectives and specifying the strategies and actions to achieve them;
• Must adhere to the Code of Ethical Conduct for Clinical Professionals;
• Carries out other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Master's or Doctoral Degree
• Current Texas License
• Knowledge of mental health assessment, treatment planning, developmental psychopathology, systems and methods in family therapy, group therapy, child psychotherapy, DSM-IV diagnoses, and behavioral therapy.
• Bi-lingual English-Spanish speaking proficiency preferred, but not required.
• Eligible to be a Medicaid and/or Medicare provider.
• Mental and physical health sufficient to meet the demands of the position.
• Requires a valid Texas Driver's License, appropriate driving record and auto liability insurance that meets the minimum required by State of Texas statute.
• Computer literate
• Comfortable treating patients of all ages

• Knowledge of psychodiagnostic and psychotherapeutic techniques and theories.
• Ability to assess the individual needs of a patient and evaluate the care and services provided to meet those needs.

• Ability to maintain clinical records and prepare related reports.
