We are excited to launch our Heavy Diesel Technician Apprentice Programme. We have an outstanding opportunity for a curious, self-motivated, dedicated team player with a passion and commitment to developing a long-term career at our purpose-built state of the art workshop facility, based in East Tamaki, Auckland. 

This is an epic, once in a lifetime opportunity. Upon landing the role, you will be enrolled in the NZ Certificate in Heavy Automotive Engineering (Level 3 & 4) programme through MITO. Once you earn your certificate as a Diesel Technician, you will then be enrolled in the NZ Certificate in Electric Vehicle (EV) Automotive Engineering programme (Level 5). 

Every Apprentice is different, so this could take anywhere from 3 – 5-years. Not to worry, you will be well looked after with an onsite assessor, no call-outs in the first year and have all your tools provided.

Responsibilities include

  • Maintain pace in your technical courses while carrying out routine service, maintenance, and repairs on Waste Management heavy vehicles. 
  • Carry out diagnostics & troubleshooting of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
  • Conduct diagnostics of components using specialist tools and equipment.
  • Complete detailed service reporting and manufacturers documentation.

Qualifications

  • Full Class 1 Driver's Licence 
  • Good communication skills both verbal and written.
  • At least NCEA level 2 in English and Maths.
  • A certificate in mechanics or similar is desired but not essential.
  • Have a “Safety First” mindset
  • Be an NZ Citizen or Permanent Resident
