Job Description

Visa Corporate Tax has an exciting opportunity for a Tax Planning Director responsible for US federal tax planning, researching, and developing sustainable strategies for risk mitigation and an effective long-term tax position for VISA. This individual contributor role will interface with personnel from all areas of the Company to diligence and execute complex tax-led projects. This position will report to the VP, International Tax and Controversy and will be based in Foster City, CA.

Visa’s Global Tax department comprises a diverse group of over 60 professionals located throughout Visa’s global offices spanning: Foster City, California, London, Miami, Dubai, Singapore, Toronto, and Mumbai. The Global Tax department manages both direct and indirect tax strategy, tax planning and structuring, transfer pricing, controversy, tax policy, and compliance as a US multinational organization.

The Tax Planning team serves as a trusted advisor to the SVP Global Tax. We demonstrate thought leadership, conduct research, recommend, plan, and implement sustainable tax strategies in an evolving global tax landscape. We also work consultatively across Tax and collaborate with Government Engagement, Treasury, Controllership and Legal with a solution delivery mindset.

The Tax Planning Director is an individual contributor role within the team and comes with tremendous opportunity to work on high impact, high value projects. The role requires thought leadership through influence, strong analytical and critical thinking skills, ability to manage multiple high priority initiatives while addressing obstacles and applying project management concepts to delivery. This role is visible across finance as we work closely with cross-functional teams and is key to securing buy-in and commitment to execution from our partners.

Essential Functions:

  • Partner with the VP, International Tax for end-to-end development and execution of tax planning strategies with thoughtful consideration to risk management in a changing global tax landscape
  • Conduct legal research and analysis related to US Federal Income Tax provisions, OECD pronouncements. tax treaties and other relevant tax matters
  • Develop, prepare, or review quantitative tax models to analyze impact of new or proposed tax legislation and support decision making
  • Manage the delivery of high impact, complex tax projects through cross-functional collaboration and influence across finance, legal, treasury and business stakeholders
  • Monitor tax legislative developments, communicate implications to Visa and proposed response clearly and concisely to VP
  • Find opportunities to rationalize and streamline legal entity structure
  • Assist the North America Tax Operations team in ensuring accurate reporting of planning initiatives in the consolidated tax provision and US tax returns including analysis of uncertain tax positions
  • Support the M&A team and Transfer Pricing team on acquisition structuring, post-acquisition integration activities,
  • Provide consultation and support to Tax Controversy teams on US international tax aspects of IRS audits and certain foreign country local tax audits
  • Support tax planning activities initiated by regional tax teams working collaboratively to with them and local tax advisors to deliver results that take US tax into consideration
  • Participates in tax discussions to support initiatives originating in other parts of the business
  • Work effectively with external advisors on a variety of tax projects, managing resources, fees, and quality of deliverables

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office three days a week, Tuesdays - Thursdays with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% of the time based on business needs.

 

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • 10 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 8 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters/ MBA/JD/MD) or at least 3 years of work experience with a PhD

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 8-10 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 6+ years of work experience with a PhD
  • Minimum 10-12 years of mixed working experience between Big 4 and a large corporate tax department with international operations
  • CPA, Master of Taxation, or other advanced degree highly desired
  • Demonstrated work experience on complex US tax matters and project management of high impact tax projects
  • Clear and concise oral and written communication skills with ability to interact professionally with diverse groups
  • Technology forward- advanced computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office suite of products. Experience with Oracle ERP, One Source and Alteryx is a plus
  • Excellent organization and project management skills with ability to work independently
  • Relationship builder who can exert influence cross functionally to own and drive projects

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 146,900.00 to 213,000.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
