Based in Athens, the Senior Manager, Corporate Communications, Southern Europe will be responsible for devising, leading and successfully implementing all day-to-day communications and employee engagement activity in Greece, Israel, Malta and Cyprus, a collection of markets in Visa’s fast-expanding Southern Europe cluster (Italy, Spain, Turkey, Portugal, Greece, Israel, Cyprus and Malta).

Reporting directly into the Head of Corporate Communications in Southern Europe, the Senior Manager should be curious, business-focused and enjoy taking on new projects. As a self-starter, they will feel comfortable working in a matrix environment, and work collaboratively with their colleagues in Southern Europe, as well as Global and European Corporate Communications teams.  

A strong storyteller with a digital-first mindset, they find appealing ways to get our message across to both internal and external audiences. They will provide strategic communications counsel to the General Manager Greece, Israel, Cyprus and Malta, as well as to the Country Managers leading those countries, and develop strong relationships with senior leaders across the Southern Europe cluster.

The Senior Manager will lead the planning and activation of proactive communications programmes in Greece, Israel, Malta and Cyprus, and manage and coordinate the local PR agencies, directing the development of announcements, events, campaigns, messaging and delivery across multiple channels and audiences, as well as ensuring the measurement of the results.

The role will also work in partnership with Marketing, Business Performance & Strategy, Government Engagement and Client communications, Merchants Sales & Acquiring to prioritise the expansion of Visa’s digital presence and brand across the region, particularly leveraging traditional and digital media, alongside social channels (Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and local blogs).

A key aspect of the role will be to create executive visibility programmes for senior executives in Greece, Israel, Malta and Cyprus. From time to time, there will be a requirement to build specific programs for executives from Global or Europe, through identifying, evaluating, and recommending regional media and speaking opportunities across the markets.

Additionally, the Senior Manager will be expected to assist the Head of Corporate Communications, Southern Europe, in responding to major incidents or crises by undertaking an appropriate communications support role, ensuring the ability to respond out of hours in some instances.  

Qualifications

This job requires the ability to support the Southern Europe Communications team across internal and external engagements. The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

• Minimum seven years public relations/communications experience with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent PR qualification
• Experience working for, or supporting, a high-profile company/brand, working in a matrix, multi-national corporate environment
• Experience of, and passion for, creating engaging corporate communications campaigns that meet business objectives
• Proven self-starter with experience of developing and implementing internal and external communications programmes, including client communications, media relations, social media strategies, and crisis/reputation management
• Strong written and verbal communications skills in English and Greek, with other European languages an advantage
• Experience in developing engaging written and visual content, including press releases, statements, blogs, briefing documents, videos and infographics
• Excellent communications and interpersonal skills and proven ability to advise and influence senior internal stakeholders, while simultaneously managing multiple projects under pressure
• Ability to build and maintain positive relationships internally and externally, often interacting within the region and cross-functionally across the business
• Analytical mindset, with experience of embedding communications measurement frameworks, reporting and campaign evaluation
• Strong project management skills, with the ability to quickly transition from strategy to implementation, working on both simultaneously as needed
• Experience of media evaluation and analysis
• Management of project budgets, ensuring alignment with procurement and contract processes
• Effective management of, and partnership with, external suppliers/agencies
