Job Description
The Cloud Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for supporting and maintaining Azure cloud environments. The role includes infrastructure monitoring, troubleshooting, automation, security, compliance and operational support. The successful candidate will work with architects, engineers and stakeholders to implement and support cloud-based services while ensuring reliability, performance and security.
Responsibilities
- Support, monitor and optimise Azure services including virtual machines, storage, networking and databases.
- Diagnose and resolve Azure-related incidents and infrastructure issues.
- Support high availability, disaster recovery and resilience solutions.
- Monitor system performance using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics and Application Insights.
- Implement and maintain security controls including Microsoft Defender for Cloud, Azure Security Centre and role-based access control.
- Administer Entra ID, multi-factor authentication, conditional access and hybrid identity solutions.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell, Azure CLI, Python, ARM, Bicep or Terraform.
- Support Azure DevOps pipelines and infrastructure-as-code deployments.
- Support networking services including virtual networks, VPN gateways, ExpressRoute, private endpoints and DNS.
- Implement and maintain backup and disaster recovery solutions.
- Maintain Azure resources through planned patching and maintenance activities.
- Support upgrades associated with Synapse, Apache Spark and Python environments.
- Support Power Platform, Logic Apps and Microsoft 365 integrations.
- Develop and maintain Logic Apps to automate file movement and API integrations.
- Monitor Azure consumption and support governance and cost-management activities.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation and support knowledge sharing across teams.
- Support backup and restoration of Azure environments.
Qualifications
Essential Criteria
- Degree qualification in a technology-related discipline or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience supporting Azure cloud environments.
- Knowledge of Azure services including compute, storage, networking, security and databases.
- Experience diagnosing and resolving technical issues within cloud environments.
- Proficiency in PowerShell, Azure CLI, Python or equivalent scripting technologies.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code solutions such as Terraform, ARM templates or Bicep.
- Experience using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics or similar monitoring tools.
- Knowledge of networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, VPNs, ExpressRoute and network security controls.
- Understanding of cloud security principles, identity management and data protection.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Desirable Criteria
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104).
- ITIL v4 Foundation certification.
- Experience supporting Azure DevOps pipelines.
- Experience supporting Power Platform and Microsoft 365 services.
- Experience supporting Synapse Analytics environments.
- Experience within public sector or highly regulated environments.
- Experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers.
