Job Description

Version 1 has a capability development programme focused on supporting the careers of our team members. As a Solution Architect, you will be expected to play a key role in this capability and contribute to strategy. Key Responsibilities

  • Work across the architecture disciplines of Application, Integration, Data and Security, bringing these perspectives together into a coherent IT architecture.
  • Architect business applications and services for complex large-scale on-premise, cloud and hybrid-cloud environments.
  • Provide advice and support to business and technology stakeholders in designing future ICT platforms and business support services.
  • Work with architecture tools, frameworks and methodologies to define, publish and maintain high-quality architecture documentation.
  • Produce design documentation in advance of implementation across waterfall and agile delivery environments.
  • Apply functional application architecture design patterns and leading industry practices.
  • Design software that meets non-functional requirements including performance, availability and scalability.
  • Contribute architecture expertise to large transformation programmes.
  • Apply knowledge of platform, database, application and web technologies when designing solutions.
  • Apply SOA and microservices architecture patterns to design effective solutions.
  • Provide architectural governance across projects and support IT governance processes.
  • Oversee implementation of solution architectures aligned to business requirements and ICT strategy.
  • Support application programming interface (API), microservices and interoperability solutions.
  • Apply an understanding of federation and federated identity providers.
  • Build collaborative relationships with stakeholders to define architectural approaches and build consensus on technical decisions.
  • Contribute to the future strategic direction of ICT and digital services.
  • Communicate effectively in written and spoken English.
  • Work closely with clients to assess current infrastructure, application portfolios and business challenges to define modernisation plans.
  • Collaborate with development teams to ensure designs are implemented in line with coding, security and performance standards.
  • Support and participate in proof-of-concept (PoC) development activities.
  • Facilitate workshops, technical sessions and presentations to build consensus and alignment on architectural decisions.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • At least five years' experience as a Solution Architect or Technical Architect.
  • Previous hands-on experience as a Java Developer or Technical Lead.
  • Extensive technical expertise across enterprise architecture disciplines.
  • Application Modernisation experience.
  • Detailed knowledge of architectural patterns and industry best practice.
  • Experience engaging effectively with senior stakeholders.
  • Technical expertise and communication capability.
  • Experience designing and delivering architecture solutions across on-premise, cloud and hybrid-cloud environments.
  • Experience producing architecture and design documentation.
  • Experience operating within agile and/or waterfall delivery environments.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience with VMWare, Red Hat OpenShift, IMDG, Redis, 3Scale, Keycloak, OIDC, Identity Management, LDAP and Active Directory.
  • Experience with MariaDB/Galera, MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL and Ingres.
  • Experience with JBoss, Spring Boot and Angular.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and Jenkins.
  • Additional experience supporting major public-sector or enterprise transformation programmes.
