Job Description
OVERVIEW
The Reporter is an experienced news reporter/anchor who will research and pitch major business and financial news stories to our client, the business channel of a China state broadcaster. In this role, you will write in-depth analytical and balanced reports on selected topics, as well as deliver the reports on-air in Chinese language.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Research, identify and effectively pitch the latest business, finance, economy and/or markets news stories to the client on daily basis
- Write daily and weekly news reports on selected topics in Chinese for the client under tight deadlines
- Record on-camera daily reports for the client on the selected topic
- Record on-camera weekly reports for the client on featured business personnel of the week
- Produce news packages and/or feature stories for the client as required
- Translate all reports and packages from Chinese to English
- Coordinate with CNBC’s digital and social media teams to provide the client with CNBC’s digital news packages with post-editing, on ad-hoc basis
- Opportunity to contribute to CNBC’s digital video and digital articles
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Extensive experience in covering global economy, business and market news.
- Excellent in written and spoken Chinese and English in order to transcribe notes, communicate with the core client, and present news in Chinese.
- Strong analytical reporting and writing skills.
- Excellent news judgement and high attention to detail.
- In-depth knowledge of business, finance, economy and/or markets.
- Demonstrated experience in writing accurate and balanced news reports and delivering on-air reporting under tight deadlines.
- Experience working for a leading business and financial news network.
- Develop a clear understanding of CNBC’s editorial and programming priorities, as well as client’s expectations.
- A flexible to working different shifts occasionally when required depending on business’ needs, including weekends.
- Strong team player with good communication skills.
- Computer literate and strong organizational skills.
DESIRED ATTRIBUTES
While not essential for this role, candidates with experience or proficiency in the following attributes tend to excel in this position.
- Five (5) or more years of business and/or financial news writing and reporting experience.
- Lively, engaging on-camera personality experience.
The responsibilities associated with this position are not limited to the above description and may be modified at any time by the Company. This is a one-year fixed-term contract, with renewal subject to an annual review of business needs.
