We are now recruiting suitable candidate for T ▪ PARK, the sludge treatment facility being built for the Environmental Protection Department of Hong Kong Special Administration Region in Tuen Mun. It is the first modern sludge treatment plant in Hong Kong, with fluidized bed combustion technology, high efficiency steam boilers and steam turbines.

Job Description

The Engineer’s main function would be to ensure that the power Systems in the Waste to energy business line are operated and maintained in a stable and safe way with the local teams. The role will include but is not limited to;

●     Providing technical advice to the management and operations team(s).
●     Liaising with vendors, operations and maintenance teams to plan power systems maintenance.
●     High voltage maintenance shutdown planning,
●     Coordinating testing.
●     Some post commissioning fine-tuning of settings as appropriate.
●     Updating maintenance procedures, and preparing new procedures as required.
The generator fleet comprises of:
●     Two GE 11kV steam turbo-generators
●     One 11kv emergency diesel generator,
●     One Triveni steam turbo-generator, and,
●     Three MWM CHP generators.

This role requires knowledge of complex control and protection schemes which will need to be maintained and operated by a suitably qualified and experienced candidate.

The role will require the engineer to respond to breakdowns / faults, investigate and determine whether it is safe to re-energize the plant and equipment, then coordinate restoration of the power system assets.

The engineer will need to be deeply involved in the maintenance of power system assets;

The applicant will also liaise professionally with CLP (the grid company) and operations teams to ensure that the power system is operating within the limits of the supply agreement(s).

The position would suit an experienced engineer with strong experience in power systems or a protection engineer with at least 5+ (preferably 10) years of experience with high voltage systems including high voltage power generation.

Qualifications

Essentials Experience and Skills:

Demonstrated experience in high voltage system maintenance, equipment operation and troubleshooting. This must include strong knowledge of protection relays, circuit breakers, transformers, generators.

Advanced knowledge and experience with modern, networked, microprocessor-based protection relays, protection scheme testing and fault finding.

Strong knowledge and experience with industrial communication networks, including fibre optics is required.

The applicant must be experienced in analysing single line diagrams and electrical schematics during troubleshooting and maintenance.

●     Must be able to connect a computer to a protection relay and read event / record files, analyse COMMTRADE files and determine fault type and location.
●     Strong communications skills, both verbal and written. Must be fluent in English to read and understand existing design documentation.
●     Demonstrated strong focus on safety
●     Must have a strong understanding of power station operation.
●     Hands on experience with technical support for power system faults and protection trips is essential.
●     Leadership skills are essential; Must be able lead and coach an existing team of technicians / engineers.
●     Must be able to lead calmly while working under pressure / after equipment trips.
●     Experience providing after-hours technical support for power systems fault investigation and restoration.

Desirable Experience

Experience with Schneider / Alstom, GE and SEL range of protection relays;

●     MiCOM P132, P143, P746, P341, P343 protection relays
●     Experience with Multilin G60 protection relays.,
●     C264 Modular substation computers / bay control units.
●     Experience with IEC-61850 communication technology is highly desirable.
●     Experience in power station environments.
●     Experience in hands on testing of protection relays including secondary injection test,
●     Experience in CT and VT testing.
●     Experience using modern electronic protection relay test sets (Omicron).
●     Experience in load management systems / load shedding systems. (Schneider PACiS)
●     Experience with fault-finding and operation of SCADA systems.
