The role

As an Asset Specialist – Gas Networks, you’ll support the Asset Manager to develop and maintain clear, defensible asset strategies that keep Vector’s gas network safe, reliable and fit for the future. You’ll analyse asset condition, performance, and risk data, turning insights into practical recommendations that inform maintenance, renewal, and long‑term investment decisions across the network.

You’ll work closely with delivery, engineering, planning, finance and digital teams, contributing to asset standards, strategy documents and reporting that support regulatory, safety and customer outcomes. Over time, you’ll increasingly lead discussions with internal stakeholders and service partners, confidently explaining complex data and recommendations in a clear, accessible way.

This role offers a rare opportunity to help manage New Zealand’s largest gas distribution network, with high visibility and real sector influence. You’ll sit at the intersection of engineering, data, finance and digital innovation, contributing to future‑focused initiatives such as advanced inspection technologies and AI‑enabled condition assessment. With flexible hybrid working, a strong sense of purpose, and the chance to leave a lasting legacy on safety, sustainability and customer outcomes, this is a role where your work truly matters.

Who are we looking for?

  • Strong analytical capability, with experience analysing asset, infrastructure or complex datasets to produce condition, risk or performance insights
  • Advanced Excel skills, including working confidently with large datasets, structured analysis and reporting
  • Exposure to asset management concepts such as lifecycle planning, risk‑based investment or asset strategies (direct gas experience is not required)
  • Ability to communicate technical or analytical insights clearly to non‑technical stakeholders, both in writing and in presentations
  • A collaborative, open‑minded approach, with the confidence to constructively challenge existing ways of working and a strong “we, not me” mindset.
