This role is based in Mokopane, Limpopo.
Job Description
Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Lead and contribute to the development, implementation and review of site Social Management Plans aligned with the Valterra Platinum Social Impact Policy and Social Impact Standards.
- Support the operation in defining strategic Social Performance priorities and associated KPIs.
- Implement systems, management tools and business processes aligned to operational and business objectives.
- Ensure Social Performance and sustainability reporting aligns with company standards and reporting requirements.
- Establish internal controls and assurance mechanisms to support delivery against approved plans.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of Sustainable Mining commitments relevant to the operation.
- Ensure Social Performance requirements are incorporated into relevant business planning processes.
- Manage consultants and service providers supporting Social Performance programmes and initiatives.
- Coordinate all Social Performance activities and consolidate reporting across multidisciplinary teams.
- Lead Social Performance inputs into the OSMC and ensure effective monitoring, evaluation, reporting and continuous improvement of social impact and sustainability commitments.
- Coordinate compilation and submission of Social Performance and Sustainability reports to operational leadership, corporate leadership and governance forums.
- Ensure social commitments are captured, monitored, evaluated and reported through approved management systems.
- Ensure alignment of management systems with business processes and operational objectives.
- Facilitate implementation of Valterra Platinum Social Impact Standards and associated procedures.
- Ensure stakeholders understand their accountabilities and obligations under the standards.
- Support readiness for audits, assessments, assurance reviews and IRMA requirements.
- Coordinate the development, implementation and review of Social Management Plans.
- Ensure site teams understand Social Impact Standards and associated KPIs.
- Coordinate implementation of Social Performance improvement plans.
- Lead Social Impact Standards awareness and training programmes.
- Support communication and change management initiatives related to Social Performance programmes.
- Evaluate effectiveness of management systems, controls and training programmes.
- Conduct trend analysis to support informed decision-making.
- Facilitate management reviews to ensure ongoing suitability, adequacy and effectiveness of Social Performance systems.
- Support cross-functional integration of sustainability initiatives.
- Ensure stakeholder engagement activities align with Valterra Platinum sustainability commitments and standards.
- Identify and facilitate conflict resolution and mediation interventions where necessary.
- Coordinate operational inputs into engagements with regulatory authorities and government institutions.
- Develop and maintain escalation processes for social risks, grievances and stakeholder concerns.
- Implement a purpose-driven, high-performing culture aligned with Valterra Platinum values.
- Promote diversity, inclusion and collaboration.
- Provide leadership, coaching and development to team members.
This role is at a Band 5 level reporting to the GM External Relations & Sustainability.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Social Sciences, Sustainability, Development Studies, Public Management, Environmental Management or related discipline
- Postgraduate qualification in Sustainability, Social Performance, Development Practice, Development Economics, Public Policy or related discipline.
- Project Management Certification.
- Monitoring and Evaluation Certification.
- Sustainability or Social Performance certification.
Experience, technical knowledge and skills
- 10 years' relevant experience in Social Performance, Sustainability, Community Relations, Development Practice or related field.
- Experience developing and implementing Social Management Plans.
- Experience managing socio-economic development and sustainability programmes.
- Experience implementing governance frameworks and management systems.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary stakeholder processes.
- Experience leading projects in complex operating environments
- Knowledge of, and proven ability to lead at a management level
- Strong data analytics and management dashboards development
- Strong foundational knowledge in one or more of these areas: economic
- Interface with and influence senior leadership.
- Facilitate complex multi-stakeholder engagement processes.
- Build trusted stakeholder relationships.
- Resolve conflict and facilitate mediation processes.
- Interpret legislation, policies, standards and governance requirements.
- Design and manage social development and improvement programmes.
- Develop social profiles, social baselines and social impact assessments
