Job Description
The University of Notre Dame is seeking two (2) Financial Reporting Managers to join the Financial Reporting and Analysis team within the University Controller’s Office.
Working under the direction of the Director of Financial Reporting and Analysis, these individuals will play key roles in ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and clarity of the University’s financial information. The ideal candidates will assist in the preparation and delivery of critical financial reports to university leadership, the broader campus community, and external stakeholders. This role requires an analytical thinker who can research accounting guidance, monitor and maintain financial data integrity, and analyze financial data to ensure accuracy for annual audits and various financial reports, both internal and external to the University.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting & Analysis: Support the annual financial reporting process, including the preparation of financial statements and responding to questions resulting from the annual audit. Prepare the University's year-end budget-to-actual results, financial surveys, various sections of the Form 990 & 990-T, and financial statements for related and special-purpose entities. Troubleshoot any related financial reporting issues and look for opportunities to improve financial reporting processes.
- Data Integrity & Audit Support: Assist in the ongoing monitoring and maintenance of data and reporting structures that support the financial reporting process, including: 1) monitoring data integrity reports and preparing adjustments to data; 2) analyzing and implementing proposed changes to the structure and content of the chart of accounts; 3) assisting in the maintenance of reporting structures used to generate the university's annual financial statements and other reports; and 4) maintaining the University's contributions receivable ledger.
- Operational and Management Support: Act as a resource for University Business Managers and other users of financial information, resolving concerns, answering questions, developing reports, and troubleshooting discrepancies. Assist in training department users and other personnel on reporting processes. Assist with the development, implementation, evaluation, and monitoring of financial reporting to management. Create reports to be disseminated and communicated to University leadership in ways that contribute to effective decision-making.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- Experience: 3 to 4 years of accounting and/or financial reporting experience
- License: Certified Public Accounting (CPA) License is highly preferred but not mandatory
- Technical Skills: Strong working knowledge of FASB reporting standards and the audit process, extensive proficiency with Microsoft Excel (including Power Pivot), experience utilizing financial reporting tools, ideally Tableau.
- Core Competencies: Excellent problem-solving capabilities, conceptual skills, attention to detail, and exceptional oral & written communication skills.
