Status: Permanent, Full-Time

Position Summary

As a key member of the Research Financial Services Team, the Financial Analyst III performs a wide range of professional accounting activities requiring application of advanced professional and competent knowledge of accounting concepts, principles and practices.  This individual works independently under broad direction and within established accounting systems.  The scope of the role includes effective portfolio financial planning & reporting, performance measurement, analysis of activities, expense approval,  non-project research centre maintenance for reporting. The role works closely with stakeholders (senior management, managers, and directors) reviewing, strategizing and making recommendations on financials, preparing and analyzing monthly/quarterly packages to facilitate decision making and financial/activity reporting.

Duties

  • Support Research Support and Solutions portfolio in financial planning and management
  • Review expenses and revenue according to budget/contracts for the assigned portfolio
  • Collaborate with department managers/directors for monthly/quarterly financial reviews
  • Provide support to other Finance teams for external reporting and internal review
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, dashboards, and analysis packages to support leadership in operational and strategic decision-making.
  • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and other month-end close activities for assigned portfolios.
  • Conduct monthly variance, highlighting key drivers, risks, and opportunities for senior management.
  • Maintain Research Non-Project centres and structures for internal reporting
  • Conduct budget training for Research Cost Centre division and coordinate the annual operating budget process.
  • Liaise with corporate finance teams and prepare analyses to support audit and internal review requirements
  • Participate in ad-hoc financial projects as required for strategic insights to drive decision making

Qualifications

 

  • University degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or equivalent program required
  • Working towards the CPA designation, preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in financial analysis and accounting, preferably within a complex, multi-funded, or healthcare environment
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting principles and standards, financial planning, and budgeting processes
  • Sound professional judgment, initiative, and the ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines
  • Self-motivated, proactive, detail oriented and solution-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders
  • Demonstrated expertise in performing complex data analysis and interpreting large volumes of financial data
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellent client service and satisfaction
  • Proficient in preparing detailed financial reports, dashboards, and business cases tailored to stakeholders
  • Highly skilled in Microsoft Office environment including Excel and Word, proficiency in Power BI, SAP, or similar systems is a strong asset
