Job Description
Course Description:
Our step squad is a structured performance program designed to introduce beginner dancers to the art of stepping—a rich, percussive art form rooted in African American culture that utilizes the entire body as an instrument. Students will develop the fundamental mechanics of synchronization, vocal projection, and rhythmic accuracy. The final task of the Project will be a High Energy Step Exhibition, featuring a completely memorized, cohesive routine that demonstrates sharp physical precision and uniform ensemble timing.
Preparation & Practice Time:
Up to 2 hours per week preparing for Projects
Hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:25pm-3:25pm
Long-term coaching during “Projects”: Meet with students Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1 hour each day, from September to late May.
Occasional after-school participation at school events and activities.
Qualifications
An experienced individual with experience participating in or leading a successful Step Squad and a passion for the craft.
A motivated leader who can teach students in the Step Squad Project on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:25pm-3:25pm (from September until late May)
An enthusiasm for collaborating with internal and external partners in the best interest of students
A self-directed learner who solicits and implements feedback to improve outcomes and achieve objectives
A demonstrated commitment to supporting students’ social emotional and academic development

Compensation
Coaches will receive an annual stipend of $6,052.00 based on experience and contracted hours per week, paid semi-monthly.
If at any point during the year, you stop performing these responsibilities before they are fully completed, for any reason, your stipend will be adjusted in accordance.
