Robotics Engineer
- Full-time
- Role Type: Experienced
- Contract Type: Permanent
- Technical Discipline: Science or Engineering
- Department: Cellular Origins
Company Description
Cell therapies are giving patients a second chance, including people facing cancers and other diseases that once had few options. The next challenge is access. To reach more patients, manufacturing has to become more reliable, more repeatable, and easier to scale. That’s what we’re building at Cellular Origins, and this role is a chance to help turn complex robotics into something trusted for real production.
Job Description
About the role
You'll join our Robotics Engineering Team, helping to develop, integrate, test and improve the robotic systems that underpin our automation platform. Working closely with software, mechanical, electrical and systems engineers, you'll play an important role in making sure our technology performs reliably and consistently in real-world applications.
This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys understanding how complex systems work, solving practical problems and using data to drive improvements.
One day you might be supporting the integration of new hardware and software, setting up and running tests on a robotic system and investigating unexpected behaviour. Another day you could be analysing test results, identifying performance trends or documenting findings to help guide engineering decisions.
You'll have the opportunity to work across different aspects of robotics engineering, developing your technical skills while contributing directly to the performance and reliability of our systems. Given the current maturity of the system, this will primarily involve software integration on existing hardware.
What you’ll do
You'll help bring our robots to life, ensuring our systems are thoroughly tested, well understood and dependable when it matters.
You’ll get to:
- Test and validate robotic systems, developing and executing test plans to assess functionality, performance, reliability and repeatability.
- Support system integration, bringing together robotic hardware, software, sensors and other automation components to ensure they work effectively as a complete system.
- Investigate and troubleshoot technical issues, working with multidisciplinary teams to identify root causes and implement improvements.
- Collect, process and analyse test data, using appropriate tools to evaluate system performance, identify trends and support engineering decisions.
- Produce clear technical reports and documentation, communicating test results, investigations, conclusions and recommendations.
- Contribute to the development of our ROS-based software stack, writing and modifying code to improve robotic functionality, performance and reliability.
- Collaborate across engineering disciplines, providing practical feedback to improve system design, usability and reliability.
Qualifications
About you
You'll enjoy this role if you like getting hands-on with technology, understanding how things work and finding solutions when they don't behave as expected. You'll be curious, methodical and comfortable working with both physical systems and technical data.
You’ll bring:
- A Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in Robotics, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a related discipline.
- A good understanding of robotics, automation or electromechanical systems, gained through industry experience, academic projects or practical engineering work.
- Programming experience, ideally in Python, with the ability to write, understand or modify scripts for testing, automation or data analysis.
- A practical, structured approach to testing, troubleshooting and solving engineering problems.
- The ability to analyse technical data, interpret results and communicate findings through clear reports and documentation.
- An understanding of how hardware and software interact within integrated engineering systems.
- Good communication skills and an ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
- An interest in developing reliable, robust engineering solutions and continuously improving system performance.
Desirable
- Experience working with industrial robots, robotic arms or mobile robots
- Familiarity with robotics frameworks such as ROS.
- Experience with system integration, verification, validation or commissioning.
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols, sensors, actuators or control systems.
- Experience using Python libraries or other tools for data processing, analysis and visualisation.
- Experience working in a product development environment.
