Job Description

Technical Writer Duties

  • Create, design, maintain, edit various publications for use by staff and students, to include pocket guides, laminate cards, student guides, instructor guides, job aids, handouts, and workbooks, ensuring adherence to standards, formats, and content, structure integrity, and usability. This includes interface with the end-product production department
  • Create, design, maintain various reports (i.e., evaluation reports) and project deliverables, often working with, or in support of, the course project’s lead. Create and maintain SOPs, which involves creating and maintaining a custom template, performing quality control on content, indexing via a concordance file, and outputting an online-interactive pdf
  • Collaborate with SMEs and program officials, and occasionally observe or participate in tests or demonstrations, to acquire information and content for the production of original documentation
  • Ensure that materials are consistent with agency policies and School/Center standards, and established formats, as well as other information presented during training
  • Ensure that training materials developed by others convey the intended information, are arranged logically, present the training’s objectives, and written clearly and interestingly for the intended audience
  • Consult, conceptualize, and select illustrative materials for inclusion in various publications and training materials across various platforms. These include, but are not limited to, photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts
  • Develop documents that meet the style requirements for the publication, written at the appropriate level for the intended audience
  • Provide documentation, publication, and training materials solutions to requests/needs, as presented by clients, SMEs, and management
  • Provide guidance and troubleshoot assistance to clients/co-workers for various programs and organization templates
  • Provide assistance with curriculum and publication aesthetics, to include media, format, graphics, animations, and difficult format conversions
  • Advise divisions on best practices and options for documentation and, in some cases, creates custom templates
  • Advise and assist authors during the writing, development, conceptualization, and production of publication and training-related materials
  • Perform initial reviews of publications/documentation and provide recommendations for revisions in scope, format, content, etc.,
  •  Perform final reviews of proposed publications for tone, design, layout, editorial, and production specification aspects before release
  • Apply a consistent set of style, grammar, and punctuation practices to training-related documents. May also be required to establish or modify existing style and standards
  • Organize materials and complete assignments that require set standards regarding organization, structure, clarity, conciseness, and terminology without supervision
  • Maintain files and copies of work assignments and revisions according to recommendations and established best practices/standards

SharePoint Administrator Duties:

  • Create, design, maintain organization schema of School/Center or division SharePoint presence.
  • Create and maintain School/Center SharePoint policy and governance, as well as advises on best practices.
  • Design and maintain electronic approval process for curriculum and other materials.
  • Create and maintain custom naming conventions for file organization on and off SharePoint.
  • Create, design, maintain various project sites, course sites, staff portal sites, and front-facing sites for School/Center and divisions as applicable, to include infrastructure and interface within difference enclaves
  • Create and maintain various libraries and lists on all assigned SharePoint sites, to include documentation, organization, and custom builds.
  • Respond to custom build requests and works with users to create custom sites, tools, etc. to meet organization needs.
  • Manage user permissions.
  • Provide troubleshooting assistance to SharePoint users.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Active Secret Clearance
  • Ten years’ experience in editing and publication development;
  • Understand how to work within the parameters of an established organization aesthetic and create a new organization aesthetic, as well as an advanced-level understanding of publication design concepts
  • Excellent written and spoken command of the English language
  • The ability to acquire and present content/information through independent reading, interviews with SMEs and specialists, observation of tests and experiments, interpretation of blueprints or diagrams, or other appropriate method
  • Ability to perform advanced audience analysis, and a proclivity for organization;
  • Possess the motivation to not only start and complete projects, but also generate new work by listening to clients/coworkers and suggesting solutions to meet training and field needs.
