Job Description

This role is responsible for assisting in the development of technical assistance and training programs delivered through a wide variety of methods to SAMHSA grantees, sub-recipients, the behavioral health field, and the general public. The Technical Assistance and Training Junior Trainer will aid in developing training and curriculum in the areas of mental health and substance abuse. These trainings include the following formats but are not limited to telephone, email, virtual, web-based, onsite at grantee’s location, or at regional or national meetings/workshops. This position requires providing technical assistance and training to a diverse audience and on an array of mental health and/or substance abuse topics. Washington D.C. local candidates are preferred. 

  • Assist in developing training and technical assistance materials for SAMHSA audiences and the general public.
  • Aid in creating participant surveys on training/assistance effectiveness.
  • Help develop workforce skills courses and materials on SAMSHA and community topics.
  • Assist in evaluating program effectiveness and training materials.
  • Collaborate with others to help develop a repository and database of master training materials and program documents.
  • Able to deliver trainings to a variety of audiences in print, web, print, online, video, print, and other formats.
  • Maintain current knowledge and compliance of program policies, regulations, and procedures; disseminates and/or presents changes to departments and advises on the implementation of any changes.
  • Assist with and provide technical assistance and training delivered through a wide variety of methods including but not limited to telephone, email, virtual, web-based, onsite at the grantee’s location, or at regional or national meetings/workshops.
  • Provide experience and leadership in technical assistance and training to a diverse audience on an array of mental health and substance abuse topics.
  • Help assess and identify the technical assistance and/or training needs of the target audience and identifying materials and courses to be developed or review existing curricula and when appropriate, develop a plan for modifying existing curricula.

Qualifications

  • Possess knowledge in developing or adapting technical assistance and/or training materials to ensure cultural competency and on an array of mental health and/or substance abuse topics. This may include developing in-person, online, and/or web-based tutorials.
  • Help with developing and utilizing data collection instruments and procedures to evaluate the effectiveness of technical assistance and/or training efforts.
  • ·Aid in arranging telephone, video conferencing, internet, and travel logistics in support of the technical assistance and/or training.

 Required Skills: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Communications, Behavioral Health, Social Sciences, Public Health, or a related field 
  • 3 years of experience as a junior trainer or in a similar role in mental, behavioral, public health, substance abuse, or a related field. 
  • Proficiency in MS Office, SharePoint, MS Excel, PowerPoint.
