Job Description

Immediate opening for a Graphics Designer at Ft. Belvoir.  Candidates should have seven years’ experience in the principles, methods and techniques used in the preparation of graphics materials, as well as the associated software and equipment.

Job Functions

  • Advise clients concerning most appropriate media for their project.
  • Apply artistic skill to produce detailed scientific and technical illustrations with a high degree of accuracy. 
  • Design graphics, animations, multimedia and interactive content and interface within parameters for specific systems and end users.
  • Troubleshoot problems of visual information output devices.
  • Develop visual aids and charts for use in lectures/presentations/training evolutions.
  • Mount, matte, frame, and laminate finished graphics/photographs. 
  • Participate in the design, layout and production of brochures, pamphlets, illustrations, briefings, signs, displays and other materials. 
  • Archive current and stored graphic products according to Government-provided VI protocol.
  • Archive appropriate graphic products to Defense and Federal agencies, as required by regulations

Qualifications

 

  • Active Secret Clearance
  • Knowledge of advanced visual arts methods, techniques and materials and ability to translate spoken or written descriptions of items, processes, issues, abstract concepts and ideas into visual media with or without the benefit of existing pictures, models or diagrams.
  • Experience with subject matter nomenclature and terminology as applied to military topic areas.
  • Experience in publication design and electronic pre-press preparation for black and white, spot color and Cyan, Magenta, Yellow & Black (CMYK) printing.
  • Experience in internet technologies and ability to design graphics, animations, interactive content and interfaces within parameters for specific systems and end users.
  • Experience with visual information output devices including configuration and troubleshoot problems.
  • Experience in color spaces and palettes for specific media and application of color management across product lines.
  • Advanced computer graphics technology to develop, recommend and maintain VI systems.
  • Experience operating large format printers (laser, toner and inkjet)
  • Experience operating large cutters (mat, vinyl, contour) and engravers
  • Experience operating laminator, adhesive boards, heat rollers and other equipment related to graphic design, printing and fabrication of artwork. 
  • Experienced in Microsoft Windows and Applications
  • Must be experienced in operating Microsoft Windows and Apple computers and their computer operating systems (including hardware and software), Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, to program, set up functions, create graphic designs and concepts, and enter data or process information.
