Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

The School of Population Health, within the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, is seeking a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Health Leadership and Health Management.

This is an opportunity to contribute to the development of future health leaders while advancing research and scholarship that supports the evolving needs of the health sector in Aotearoa New Zealand. Working across both the Master of Health Leadership and Bachelor of Health Sciences programmes, you will join a collaborative academic environment committed to improving health outcomes, reducing inequities, and strengthening health systems.

You will work alongside experienced colleagues and sector partners to shape high-quality teaching, research, and engagement activities, while contributing to the future direction of health leadership education and scholarship.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to teaching within Health Leadership and Health Management programmes.
• Design and deliver contemporary, research-informed learning and assessment.
• Supervise postgraduate student research and support student success.
• Undertake a programme of high-quality research relevant to health leadership and management in Aotearoa New Zealand.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships across the health sector.
• Contribute to programme development and the strategic direction of the Master of Health Leadership.
• Participate in service and leadership activities across the School, Faculty, and wider University community.

This opportunity is for a permanent role, part time for 32 hours per week.

The salary range for each academic level are:

Lecturer: $99,788 - $119,204 (fulltime equivalent)

Senior Lecturer: $126,863 - $145,741 (fulltime equivalent)

Your salary will be determined based on your experience, qualifications, and the level at which you are appointed.

You will be an engaged academic or experienced sector leader with a strong interest in developing the next generation of health leaders. You bring a collaborative approach, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to working across diverse communities and organisations.

You will be motivated by opportunities to connect scholarship with real-world impact and will value inclusive, culturally responsive approaches to teaching, research, and engagement. A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its significance within the health sector is essential.

You will bring:

• PhD in a relevant discipline such as health management, health leadership, public health, health systems, health policy, management, or organisational studies.
• Experience in leadership and/or management within the health or social sector.
• Demonstrated research capability in health leadership or health management.
• Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its relevance to health.
• Ability to build and maintain relationships across the healthcare sector.
• Excellent organisational, communication, and collaborative skills.
