Are you a registered Clinical Psychologist who is passionate about teaching students, as well as mentoring and developing future practitioners?

The School of Psychology at the University of Auckland is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Professional Teaching Fellow to join our Clinical Psychology Programme. This is a unique opportunity to combine your clinical expertise with meaningful teaching and supervision, helping prepare the next generation of psychologists to make a positive impact in the communities they serve.

You will play a key role in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students within the School of Psychology. Part of this role includes supporting students to develop the clinical skills, cultural safety, and professional competence required for practice.

This part-time position offers flexibility while allowing you to make a significant contribution to clinical psychology education.

You will:

  • Support students in developing culturally safe and responsive clinical practice and as it pertains to Te Tiriti o Waitangi responsiveness.
  • Lead and coordinate teaching in psychological assessment, including the use of psychometric testing.
  • Deliver engaging, evidence-based teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Provide supervision, mentoring, and assessment of student learning and clinical competency within the clinical psychology training programme.
  • Collaborate with academic and clinical colleagues to enhance learning opportunities
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of teaching resources and programme delivery
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with referral agencies and community partners

This is a part-time (16 hrs per week) permanent role

The remuneration range is $105,791 - $128,065 per annum, dependent on skills and experience, and will be pro-rated.

We’re looking for someone with a postgraduate qualification (ideally a PhD), who brings teaching experience, a student-centred mindset, and a genuine interest in continuous improvement as an educator. You’ll be someone who values collaboration, embraces diversity, and is motivated to make a positive impact in higher education.

We're looking for someone who brings both clinical credibility and a genuine passion for education.

You will have:

  • A working understanding of the meaning, implications and bicultural relationship dictated by Te Tiriti o Waitangi and have had experience work as a culturally safe practitioner in Aotearoa
  • Registration as a Clinical Psychologist with the New Zealand Psychologists Board and a current practising certificate (or eligibility for registration).
  • Membership of a recognised professional psychology association (NZPsS or NZCCP).
  • Competence in clinical assessment and psychometric testing.
  • A commitment to supporting student success and professional development
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and organisational skills
  • Experience working effectively with people from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and culturally responsive practice

The following would be advantageous:

  • Experience teaching within clinical psychology or a related tertiary environment
  • Experience providing clinical supervision
  • More than three years of post-registration clinical practice experience
