Job Description

Join TAL’s Individual Life business as a Data Scientist in the Actuarial Pricing and Value team, where your work will help shape smarter, more sustainable outcomes for our customers and business. In this role, you’ll use data, analytics and emerging technology to uncover insights that support customer retention, commercial decision-making and long-term value across TAL’s Retail Advised and Direct Life Insurance portfolios. By helping us better understand customer needs and strengthen the way we price, retain and support our customers, you’ll contribute to TAL’s broader purpose of helping Australians protect the choices, options and freedoms that matter most. This is a meaningful opportunity to turn complex data into insight that makes a real difference for customers, partners and the future of life insurance.

This role must be based in Sydney.

In this role you will:

  • Build scalable data assets that power retention insights, modelling and strategic decision-making.
  • Deliver intuitive dashboards and reporting solutions that enable faster, data-led decisions.
  • Translate complex analysis into clear insights and recommendations for business stakeholders.
  • Modernise analytics processes through automation, AI and cloud-based technologies.
  • Apply advanced analytics and emerging technologies to improve customer retention outcomes.
  • Champion responsible data and AI practices that support reliable, compliant analytics solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bring tertiary qualifications in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Studies, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
  • Have at least 2 years’ industry experience in a data, analytics or related quantitative role.
  • Insurance industry experience highly regarded
  • Use strong SQL skills to prepare, explore and transform data into meaningful insights.
  • Apply Python and/or R to develop analytical, statistical or machine learning models.
  • Create clear dashboards and reporting solutions using Power BI or similar tools.
  • Communicate complex insights clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
