Job Description

The Data Engineer plays a key role in enabling TAL’s data-driven capabilities by designing, building and maintaining robust data pipelines and curated data assets that support reporting, analytics, operational insights and AI use cases. This role spans the full data lifecycle, from ingestion and transformation through to orchestration and data delivery, ensuring data is reliable, scalable and accessible for business needs. Leveraging modern engineering practices, automation and cloud-native technologies, the Data Engineer enhances data quality, performance, resilience and reusability across TAL’s evolving data platform.

Working in close collaboration with architects, platform and analytics teams, product owners and business stakeholders, the Data Engineer translates business requirements into practical, high-quality engineering solutions. The role ensures alignment with TAL’s data standards and governance frameworks while contributing to key delivery outcomes. In doing so, it also supports continuous improvement and uplift of engineering practices across the broader data ecosystem.

In this role you will:

  • Design, build and maintain robust batch and near real-time data pipelines that ingest, transform and publish data for reporting, analytics, operational and AI-enabled use cases
  • Build and maintain data transformations that prepare trusted, well-structured and reusable datasets for downstream consumption
  • Use modern cloud data tooling across Azure, Microsoft Fabric, Databricks and related services to implement secure, scalable and observable data workflows.
  • Embed data quality checks, validation logic, lineage capture and operational controls into pipelines and datasets
  • Collaborate closely with architects, platform engineers, analysts, product owners and business stakeholders to shape practical and reusable solutions

Qualifications

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in information technology, computer science, software engineering, data engineering or a related discipline
  • Relevant certifications in Azure, Microsoft Fabric, Databricks or related data engineering technologies are desirable
  • Strong understanding of data engineering fundamentals including ETL and ELT, data transformation, pipeline orchestration, data quality and data serving patterns.
  • Hands-on knowledge of Azure data services, Microsoft Fabric, Databricks or similar modern cloud data platforms.
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience with Python, Spark or other relevant data engineering languages and frameworks.
  • Knowledge of data modelling, metadata, lineage, observability, monitoring and troubleshooting practices relevant to production-grade data solutions.
  • Understanding of privacy, security, governance and risk controls relevant to enterprise data engineering
