Job Description

The Research Data Associate is responsible for managing, analyzing, and optimizing research and trialing data to support Syngenta’s trialing and product placement activities across Europe. This role ensures data accuracy, develops automated reporting solutions, and drives innovation in digital tools and analytical workflows. The successful candidate will work closely with trialing, product placement, and data scientists to deliver actionable insights, improve operational efficiency, and enable data-driven decision-making.

Responsibilities

Data & Systems Management

  • Maintain research databases and ensure accurate, up-to-date trial and registration data (e.g., SPAD/PPS).
  • Improve data storage and reduce manual/repetitive data entry; coordinate enhancements with developers.

Reporting & Analytics

  • Build and maintain automated dashboards and reports (KPIs, genetic advancement, commercial success, registration budget, trial execution).
  • Produce seasonal technical summaries and performance reporting.

Trial & Experiment Support

  • Set up and manage experiments and material workflows (e.g., TOPS/MINT) and decision groups (ADAPT).
  • Provide GIS/mapping, data visualization, and inputs for trial selection and network adjustment scenarios; share data with partners as needed.

Data Collection, Processing & Automation

  • Support and automate phenotypic data collection, validation, and processing (including drone/metroplot alignment and trait quantification).
  • Lead automation initiatives for data cleaning, formatting, and analysis readiness.

Tools, Training & Innovation

  • Serve as regional expert/trainer for digital tools and processes; test and implement new tools and workflows.
  • Support adoption of advanced analytics (including ML/AI where applicable) and maintain SOPs/knowledge base.

Qualifications

Qualifications

Professional Competencies

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Agronomy, GIS, Statistics, or related discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in agricultural research data management or analytics.
  • Proficiency in database management systems and data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, GIS software).
  • Experience with experimental design and statistical analysis in agricultural research.
  • Familiarity with molecular breeding and phenotyping technologies preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Advanced Excel, SQL, and data automation scripting (Python/R).
  • GIS mapping and spatial analysis expertise.
  • Experience with drone imagery processing and integration.
  • Knowledge of machine learning applications in agriculture.
