The Student's Society of McGill University (SSMU) is currently hiring. With over 20,000 members, SSMU's role is to represent students and to offer services since 1908.

Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Human Resources Manager and working with the Human Resources Director and relevant Executives, the Human Resources Coordinator will coordinate human resources processes pertaining to casual staff members.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Coordinate the staffing process: revise and review job descriptions with the relevant Executive;

  2. Coordinate the recruitment process: Post jobs online, review candidates, consult and guide hiring managers on the interview process. Prepare and update interview guides. Schedule and conduct interviews; 

  3. Coordinate staff onboarding: Ensure all necessary paperwork is completed, and coordinate with the hiring team for orientation;

  4. Support the Health and Safety program and Social Committee by attending Health and Safety/Social Committee meetings and coordinating action items, if required;

  5. Orient casual staff on an ongoing basis and answer questions. Consult relevant Executives and the Human Resources Manager, as required;

  6. Communicate SSMU policies to casual staff (ex: Employee Manual for casual staff members, Conflict of interest policy, SSMU Constitution and By-Laws);

  7. Participate in training hiring managers on human resources processes;

  8. Participate in HR improvement projects.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS:

  1. To undertake other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Human Resources Manager and the Human Resources Director.

SUPERVISION REQUIRED:

The Human Resources Coordinator receives general direction from the Human Resources Manager and the Human Resources Director.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  1. Undergraduate student enrolled in Management, in Industrial Relations or any other related programs;

  2. Knowledge of Quebec Standard Labour laws;

  3. Experience in handling confidential information;

  4. Sound judgment and impartiality;

  5. Good communication skills both verbal and written in English, and French is an asset;

  6. Proven organizational skills;

  7. Good interpersonal skills;

  8. Initiative;

  9. Ability to prioritize tasks.

It is understood and agreed that all matters to the SSMU and those clubs association or groups forming part of the SSMU are to be kept in the strictest of confidence, and nothing regarding the operations, policies and general activities of the SSMU or its constituent groups shall be divulged to any third party without the express consent of the General Manager and/or the Executive Committee of the SSMU.

 

Additional Information

  • Paid position: $15.34 per hour
  • Hours: up to 17.5 hours per week
