The Student's Society of McGill University (SSMU) is currently hiring. With over 20,000 members, SSMU's role is to represent students and to offer services since 1908.

Job Description

The Coat Check Attendant acts as the point-of-entry for patrons entering Gerts, and is responsible for
the coordination of patrons entry, coat checked, and closing at the end of the night.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Checking patrons’ identification to ensure age of majority before admittance into bar area;
2. Giving patrons a visible stamp for entry/re-entry into the bar;
3. Receiving patrons’ belongings and managing them in an organized fashion, making sure to
give patrons their coat check ticket;
4. Receiving patrons’ coat check tickets and returning the correct belongings to them;
5. Closing and locking the coat check room at the end of the shift, removing any unclaimed
belongings and bringing them to the lost and found to be recorded;
6. Assist patrons to navigate the building, and educate patrons on various resources and
activities that can be found throughout the building;
7. Assist in the operations of events throughout the building, ensuring that COVID-19 measures are being respected;
8. Act with integrity, professionalism and a positive attitude that promotes the vision, values and environment of the Students’ Society
9. Represent the The Students’ Society brand with passion, confidence, and a positive attitude;
10. Any other tasks as assigned by the Bar Manager.

Qualifications

1. Ability to work calmly and professionally in a high-pressure work environment from both an
operational and political perspective;
2. Ability to stand for long periods of time;
3. Integrity, maturity, honesty, good interpersonal skills
4. Ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team are essential;
5. Punctual, organized, responsible, and friendly;
6. Ability to multitask, problem solve and take direction;
7. Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset;
8. Familiarity with the McGill environment is an asset.
9. Highly professional attitude and work ethic;
10. Proven team player;
11. Commitment to adhere to COVID-19 regulations and ability to adapt to new protocols as those regulations change.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS:
To undertake other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Bar Manager and/or Supervisor(s) from time to time.


SUPERVISION REQUIRED:
Coat Check Attendants receive general direction from the Bar Manager. A certain degree of initiative and self-direction is expected in day-to-day operations.

  • Paid position: $15.25
  • Contract dates: January 3rd 2024 to May 31st 2024
