Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Bar Manager, the Food Counter Attendant will be responsible for preparing input ingredients for menu items as well as preparing food for the following day’s service on a daily basis.  In addition, they will maintain high standards of customer services and courtesy, health and safety regulations and all Gerts policies and procedures. They are in charge of providing quality products and service in a clean and safe environment to each and every customer.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Prepare input ingredients as part of food preparation for the day and for the following day; 

  2. Perform ‘à la minute’ preparation of dishes upon order;

  3. Ensure prepared food is made according to recipes and meets Gerts’ quality standards as well as regulated health and food standards;

  4. Ensure that all equipment is functional. If not, report deficiencies to the Bar Manager;

  5. Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of service and storage area, work area and equipment, including arranging tables and chairs;

  • Clean relevant service, preparation and storage areas using correct chemicals;

  • Keep service counters clean and fully stocked.

  1. Perform cashier duties as needed when orders are placed directly with kitchen;

  2. Maintain equipment in accordance with preventive maintenance checklist;

  3. Keep track of kitchen inventory and report shortages to the Bar Manager;

  4. When appropriate, sign cleaning schedules as necessary. 

  • Must be completed at the end of every day;

  1. Ensure cleaning shift list is followed and completed before punching out;

  2. Receive and put away food orders using proper FIFO rotation;

  3. Respect and follow building and SSMU Internal Regulations.

 

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS:

  1. To undertake other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Bar Manager. To be prepared to challenge and change work methods and procedures to ensure the smooth running of the department.

Health and Safety:

  • Ensure all accidents are recorded in the relevant accident books.

  • Use the correct handling and lifting procedures as outlined in induction training

  • Keep updated with all MAPAQ procedures and methods

  • Ensure all tasks are carried out in accordance with health, hygiene, quality and safety standards

Customer Service:

  • Serve all food from the counter using correct tools and presentation techniques

  • Should be friendly & approachable & have a good customer attitude

  • Should be personable to deal with customer queries & requests

SUPERVISION REQUIRED:

The Food Counter Attendants receives general direction from and reports to the Bar Manager.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Medium pressure work environment during peak periods from an operational perspective.

  • Working environment will be in a commercial kitchen.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  1. MAPAQ “Séance de formation sur l'hygiène et la salubrité alimentaires” certification OR “Manipulateur d’aliments” certification;

  2. Basic knowledge of using cooking equipment;

  3. Ability to work autonomously and self-motivated; must be comfortable creating and tasting recipes independently;

 

Additional Information

  • Paid position: $15.65
  • Application closes on March 18, 2024
  • Shift hours (7:30am-11am, end time flexible)
