Job Description

The primary responsibility of the Funding Commissioner is to assist the Vice-President (Finance) with the management of the Funding Committee.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Administer, in conjunction with the Vice-President (Finance), the application process for SSMU Funding;
  2. Assist and advise SSMU members and student groups on the process of applying for funding, including responding to emails and, occasionally, meeting with students;
  3. Ensure that all information regarding funding on the SSMU website is up-to-date;
  4. Develop and maintain resources to assist student groups with funding applications;
  5. Review all submitted funding applications and to summarize each application for presentation to the Funding Committee;
  6. Chair the SSMU Funding Committee, including preparing the agenda, facilitating the meeting, taking minutes of decisions made, and presenting reports to Legislative Council;
  7. Report bi-weekly to the SSMU Legislative Council on the decisions made by the Funding Committee and to present those decisions for ratification;
  8. Maintain detailed records of all applications, approvals, rejections, and disbursements; 
  9. Make recommendations for changes to the SSMU by-laws for the Funding Committee, as requested by the Vice-President (Finance);
  10. Ensure that the eight Funds, totaling approximately $350,000 per year, are disbursed in accordance with the SSMU Internal Regulations and that the total amounts approved and disbursed for each fund do not exceed the balance of that fund.;

Qualifications

  • Basic accounting knowledge;
  • Understanding of Microsoft office suites (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and G Suit;
  • Highly organized and strong attention to detail;
  • Strong communication skills both in English and French an asset.

Additional Information

  • Paid position: $15.95/hour
  • Hours: On average 7 hours per week;
  • Contract: November 27, 2023 to May 31st, 2024;
