Job Description

The Building Usage Auditor will primarily analyze the distribution and function of space in the SSMU University Centre. Their overall goal will be to provide a detailed picture of the space usage to allow us to develop a long-term vision for the University Centre building.

Their primary focus will be to collect the total area used for different activities to submit a report with the usage breakdown as a percentage of the total area. They will be expected to compile this information from existing documents detailing space usage which are currently available but are not centralized. This individual will also be expected to collect information pertaining to the regular maintenance and upkeep of the University Centre.

Qualifications

• Experience with research, report-writing, and presentation of findings;
• High proficiency in Microsoft Excel;
• Comfortable working with floorplans, graphs, charts, and leases;
• Organization and planning skills;
• Communication skills in English;
• Background in architecture, urban planning, or engineering, an asset.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Collect all relevant documents that detail space usage (from SSMU floor plans, master spreadsheets, or leases), and determine which space usage statistics are unknown;
  2. Work with the Vice-President (Operations) and the General Manager to quantify the usage for spaces that are currently not documented;
  3. Identify the breakdown of usage as a percentage of total building floor area in categories such as but not limited to the following (at the discretion of the researcher):
    1. Services
    2. Independent Student Groups
    3. Tenants
    4. Operations
    5. Bookable / event spaces
  4. Collect all contracts, service-level agreements, and formal documents related to building maintenance;
  5. Submit a public report to be presented at council and a private report for internal use of findings that outline space-usage breakdown, a list of maintenance protocols, and maintenance costs and contracts.
