Job Description: Senior API Engineer

 

About the job:  

Join a brand-new international team that has the mandate to develop an Enterprise API platform.

 

As a Senior API Engineer, you will be responsible for developing the API platform of the future. Working closely with Product and Engineering teams, you will help drive the transition to a scalable, decoupled, API-driven architecture. Along the way, you will evangelize modern API best practices and ensure that the software developed is of the highest quality.

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Build a new API platform from the bottom up. This will involve both new components and integration to existing components.
  • Partner directly with Engineering teams, assisting them to decouple from shared databases and rebuild their systems based on modern API principles.
    • Play a key role in raising awareness and supporting adoption of industry best practice and emerging trends, particularly relating to API development and application integration.
    • Lead a small team of high performing engineers

 

 

About You:

  • A hands-on driver rather than theoretical talker with a clear focus on delivery and what pushes the organization forward.
  • Some knowledge of sports is desirable.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Strong hands-on experience of RESTful web services and developing Web APIs and supporting technologies and practices.
  • Hands-on experience working with messaging solutions e.g. Kafka and developing asynchronous integration between services.
  • Deep knowledge of software engineering modern agile methodologies and SDLC approaches including domain-driven design, trunk-based development, test-driven development, acceptance test-driven development, and consumer-driven contract testing.
  • Strong programming experience with one or more of Java, Go, Python, or TypeScript
  • Proficient working with Relational Databases and querying with SQL
  • Working experience with one or more of AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud (AWS Preferred)

Relevant development experience with a range of items from -

  • Securing APIs with OAuth and JWT
  • Consumer Driven Contract Testing
  • Machine readable documentation such as OpenAPI and AsyncAPI.
  • API linting tools
  • API Gateways
  • Streaming architectures with Kafka and Flink
  • Microservices Architectures
  • Implementing API observability
  • NoSQL databases and distributed caches
  • Data Catalogs
