Job Description
How You’ll Make an Impact:
As a Food Service Manager, you will lead the daily operations of the dietary department, ensuring efficient service delivery and full compliance with Public Health and Long-Term Care standards. You’ll provide visible leadership during meal service, supporting team performance, monitoring quality, and ensuring a positive dining experience for residents.
You’ll be responsible for all aspects of people management, including scheduling, training, and performance management, while ensuring alignment with collective agreements and Ministry guidelines. This role also oversees inventory, reporting, and budget management, ensuring the department meets operational and financial targets.
Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, you’ll drive efficiencies, manage costs, and support continuous improvement initiatives. You’ll also lead menu planning to ensure compliance with regulatory standards while incorporating resident feedback, and support the development and maintenance of residents’ nutritional care plans.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the dietary department, ensuring efficiency and compliance with Public Health and Long-Term Care standards
- Provide hands-on leadership during meal service to monitor quality, processes, and resident satisfaction
- Oversee all staffing functions, including scheduling, training, and employee development
- Provide coaching, performance management, and corrective action as needed
- Ensure appropriate staffing levels in alignment with collective agreements and Ministry requirements
- Manage inventory and oversee required reporting for internal leadership, the Ministry, and other stakeholders
- Maintain accurate records and support all regulatory reporting requirements
- Lead budget planning and ensure adherence to financial targets
- Partner with other departments to improve efficiency, enhance service delivery, and control costs
- Develop and manage cyclical menu plans that meet regulatory standards and reflect resident feedback
- Support the ongoing maintenance of residents’ nutritional care plans, as required
Qualifications
What You’ll Need to Succeed:
- Successful completion of the Food and Nutrition Management Program from a recognized institution
- Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM) and Advance Food Safety Certification required
- Minimum 2 years of experience in food service management
- 2+ years supervisory or leadership experience
- Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills
- Prior experience managing in a unionized environment, preferably within long term care
