Job Description

Job Description:

The basic function of the Heavy Equipment Operator is to complete reclamation work in a plant atmosphere, working in tailing sands. Operator is also required to work with muskeg in a plant environment.

 

This position reports directly to the Site Superintendent and is expected to operate assigned equipment in a safe and effective manner.

As a grademan you will be responsible:

  •  to read and interpret blueprints for the proper layout and elevation control of all civil earthworks and roadworks including, but not limited to, pad building, road building, underground utility installation, ditches and slopes. 
  • The grademan establishes construction line and grades for all construction based on the layout provided by the surveyor

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • 3 years experience as a grademan
  • Ability to thoroughly read, understand and interpret civil construction plans and drawings.
  • Ability to identify any conflicts that may arise and report to site supervision
  • Mathematically inclined to accurately calculate or extrapolate finished elevations
  • Ability to work with management, client and surveyor to solve problems
  • Ability to achieve correct grade by directing operators of equipment to adjust grade by moving earth, gravel and other materials
  • Read, interpret and offset all survey layout
  • Interpretation of civil construction specifications and construction methodology
  • Ability to measure distances from reference points or offsets to accurately construct
  • Must be able to meet all safety requirements and applicable safety policies.
  • Operation of rotary lasers, builders level, theodolite
  • Verify graded surfaces using laser level
  • Installation of stakes for Layout purposes
  • Ability to work independently, self driven
  • Valid Class 1, 3 preferred
  • Ability to lift and pull up to 50lbs
  • Ability to work in all weather
  • Ability to work shift work
  • Safety conscious attitude
  • OSSA (OSSA Regional Orientation) and/or OSSA BSO (Basic Safety Orientation)
  • CSTS (Construction Safety Training System)
  • Ground Disturbance
  • Ability to pass Drug & Alcohol and a Fit for Duty Test
  • applicants must have the ability to speak, read and write fluently in English
