Job Description

We are looking for a Data Engineer to join us on our digital transformation at Shawbrook. We are looking for someone who is engaged and interested in all aspects of data, who is eager to learn and will be an advocate for high-quality standards and controls in how we manage our data.

You will be helping to shape the data landscape at Shawbrook, working within the Data team to define, build, and document our automation of financial crime data.

You will be working on our Data Engineering platform, maintaining existing code bases, building out new modules and ingesting data from multiple sources, to enable the financial crime team to perform insightful analysis.

Our Data teams are growing and this role will be a pivotal player in driving best practices within the team. You will be joining a collaborative and passionate team, working in an Agile methodology. You won’t be siloed in this role, with a diverse and fast paced workflow this is a great opportunity to develop your skills and make an impact across the bank.

  • Data engineering & development- You will work alongside an experienced Senior Data Engineer, taking technical accountability for specific stages related to data projects such as ETL/ELT pipelines and data warehousing.
  • Data innovation- You will investigate and understand emerging trends in data-related approaches, performing horizon-scanning to present current and future opportunities for the Bank.
  • Platform Optimisations- You’ll work closely with other areas, such as Cloud Engineering, to analyse storage and usage patterns to ensure the Platform is run in the most efficient and cost-effective manner
  • Data integration design- You’ll adopt and propagate standards and best practices for data integration required for regulated / financial services companies. You know how to keep those standards up to date and ensure adherence to them.
  • Data modelling- You will develop the principles of data modelling and can produce, maintain, and update relevant data models for specific business needs including bespoke serialization techniques such as Avro and Parquet
  • Testing- You will help define requirements, specifications and test conditions, identifying issues and risks while being able to analyse and report test activities and results.

Qualifications

  • Python- You will be working on our Data Engineering platform, maintaining existing code bases and building new modules and functionality, primarily using Python.
  • SQL- To manage data and derive meaningful insights you need to be able to use SQL to run queries and reconcile data.
  • Azure (or similar cloud experience)- As we scale and migrate to cloud based systems, you will be handling large amounts of data in the cloud using Azure, including Azure Data Lake and Synapse Analytics.
  • Stakeholder Management- You will need a good stakeholder management and communication skills to understand business requirements and deliver intuitive solutions.

Nice to have: 

  • CI/CD pipeline exposure 
  • Experience in financial services or regulated environment would be beneficial.
