Job Description
- Test food products and non-food products and any other items which require chromatographic/elemental/instrumental analysis in accordance to standard operating procedures, techniques, national, international and industry standards or client’s guidelines.
- Ensure all activities are carried out in compliance with the laboratory’s QA/QC system with an emphasis on ISO 17025 and ensure GLP compliance where applicable.
- Always ensure good instrumental techniques e.g. GC-MS/MS, LC-MS/MS, GC-MS, GC-FID, ICP-OES, UV-Visible Spectrophotometer are always employed.
- To ensure that the results and test data produced is accurate, reliable and within acceptable repeatability/reproducibility Statements should start with a verb including what, how and why.
- Ensure that the set turnaround time for every sample submitted is adhered to and that the clients’ testing requirements are fully met including application of correct methods/standards.
- Adhere to health and safety measures in regard to general hygiene, sample testing, sample retention, disposal/destruction.
- Ensure correct methods, standards and techniques are applied consistently in all analysis carried out including sample preparation prior to actual instrumental analysis.
- Ensure that raw data of analysis carried out clearly supports results obtained prior to subsequent approval.
- Responsible for housekeeping in the laboratory and ensure analysis is carried out in a clean and safe environment.
- Keep abreast of all the latest developments of analytical standards related to elemental/instrumental analysis and technologies in order to continuously develop new methods and capabilities for validation and final adoption
- To work in a flexible manner /pattern so that resources are aligned to workload, thus meeting customer needs for 24hrs,365-day service whilst still maintaining a long term, viable and competitive business for SGS.
- Ensure competency issues are highlighted, and appropriate training is provided according with experience, in either capacity as mentor or trainee to enable personal development which will benefit the laboratory team and maximize potential shortfalls in skills/experience in laboratory resources.
- Provide cross coverage for sample registry duties during planned absence
- Any other duties assigned to you from time to time by Management.
Qualifications
- Minimum degree in Chemistry/Biochemistry, or equivalent qualification from recognized institution
- Minimum two years laboratory testing experience preferably in a multi-purpose laboratory.
- Good knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025, ISO 9001 and HSE standards
- Work with minimum supervision
- Satisfactory capability in application of the relevant testing protocol
- Have sound knowledge of laboratory work particularly instrumental methods used in trace analysis
