Job Description

Head of Business Manager for Department of Minerals , reporting to Country Managing Director, Responsible of all business operations related to the Minerals, including its clients and stakeholder's relationship management and people leading, ensuring the compliance with the Company quality systems procedures and processes. To maintain the long-term business  are executed by improving the Revenue and profitability

Qualifications

Education

  • Degree Geology and mining, Chemistry, Port Management, Finance, Economic and Business Management or other related qualification. (Master’s degree constitutes advantage).

Experience

  • Mineral management experience is key.
  • Leadership and business management positions at national and international levels, preferably Minerals business
  • At least 10 years work experience in the Mining Sector.
  • Technical expertise to gain good knowledge of our Mining technology.
  • Solid experience with ISO's 9001, 14001, 45001 and 17025.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Exposure in laboratories and technical inspections of minerals products
  • Solid knowledge of financial management.
  • Excellent public relations and negotiation.
  • Experience in project design and business plans.

Competencies

  • Experience in team leading, partnership.
  • Practical computer knowledge from the user's point of view of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CRM System programs (is an advantage).
  • Fluent in Portuguese and English
  • Ability to act independently and to coordinate several activities simultaneously.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of management and stakeholders.
  • Persuasion and negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.

Additional Information

Responsibilities
 

- To ensure that company and group policies are implemented in the minerals business working and objectives achieved.

- To plan and develop minerals business services, including new services, in all parts of Southern Africa in collaboration with the minerals business development team.

- To project and help in achieving budgetary targets  in all activities , Monitoring and periodic reporting of budgetary performance, detect reasons for shortfall, if any, and take measures to correct this situation.

- Development of technical capabilities, recruitment and training of personnel, in different skills/areas, as may be required at a given place. Building & maintaining a single, cohesive and motivated team.

- Responsible for all divisional operations & high degree of execution.

- Liaise with respective product and regional VPs and other affiliates in exchanging information promoting minerals /SGS services.

- Market Studies/Research, Identification of Business Opportunities, Planning Strategies for Promotion, Marketing and Publicity of the minerals services. 

- Administration of contracts/jobs, routed through Geneva [international orders]; determination and review of rates and services conditions, and help in framing/concluding new contracts.

- Customer management individually as well as in association with product /regional VPs, Managing Director and Business Development Manager. 

- Ensure that the company’s Quality Assurance Programmed is implemented and maintained.

- Maintain full communication channel to the Regional MD and ensure that the Regional MD is kept current and informed on all aspects of the Minerals Operations that have any direct or indirect impact on:

- Environment, Health and Safety (prevents accidents, incidents, perceived or actual H&S concerns)

- Participate in the completion of Management Action Report Card responsibilities, which measures leading HSE indicators to proactively manage Health & Safety.

- Accountability for compliance to local and provincial Environmental regulations for air, waste, water and soil.

- Quality (Client complaints, data, personnel performance, turnaround, equipment)

- Client Satisfaction (meeting external and internal customer expectations from a service, quality and turnaround perspective)

- Actively participate /adopt/follow-up of Quality Improvement Projects/Programmes.

- Assess need and organize Internal Audits of operations and minerals laboratories.

- Ensure compliance with company/Group Safety Policy and local legislation concerning health and safety.

- To work with the Regional Managing Director Southern Africa and VP Minerals Africa so as to maximize business returns whilst minimizing exposure and risk for the company.

- Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by direct line manager.

 Other Specific Responsibilities

-  Translate business strategy into pragmatic action plans and execute

-  Analyse market potential and develop competitive positioning and pricing strategies in conjunction with business development direct reports

- Develop new services/products and concepts for the assigned market segment

- Monitor market for the development of new technologies and trends 

- Identify and promote future business leaders

- Help to draft, guide, negotiate and secure contracts for new and existing sites / laboratories and locations from international and Southern Africa and Tropical Africa based clients

- Promote the image, capability and integrity of the company to the clients

- Accountable for any claim that may arise from clients

-  Manage pre and post contract commercial issues

- Ensure the best quality of execution

- Operate to the highest standards of ethics, in accordance with the SGS Statement of Integrity Lead, coach and develop a business oriented team
