Join our team supporting one of the UK's most important defence programmes.

We're looking for reliable, safety focused individuals to join us as Vessel Fire & Safety Officers within a busy shipbuilding environment. This is a hands on role where you'll help protect people, assets, and operations from fire and safety risks while working alongside a wide range of trades and specialist teams.

This is a unique opportunity to work within a highly secure defence environment, with full training provided.

Interviews

There will be a recruitment afternoon held:

Date: 29 July 2026 

Venue: The Bridge, Portland Walk, Barrow in Furness, LA14 1DB.

Time slots - 17150hrs and 1800hrs.

Shift Patterns

Day Shift

• £15.16 per hour
• 3 days on, 4 days off

Night Shift

• £15.88 per hour
• Monday to Thursday

Night Shift

• £16.91 per hour
• 3 nights on, 4 nights off

This is a shift based role operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The Role

As a Vessel Fire & Safety Officer, you will:

• Help protect people, assets, and operations within a busy shipbuilding and defence environment.
• Monitor hot work activities and support safe working practices across the site.
• Carry out fire safety checks and identify potential hazards.
• Work closely with a variety of trades and teams to maintain a safe working environment.
• Operate within vessels, confined spaces, and other challenging operational areas.
• Support the delivery of fire safety standards across a nationally significant defence programme.

Please note: Due to the nature of this role, successful applicants must meet the security and vetting requirements associated with working on a UK defence contract.

Essential Requirements

• British Citizen, or have held a British Passport for a minimum of 5 years.
• Able to obtain Security Clearance (SC).
• 5 year checkable work history, with any employment gaps over 2 weeks explained.
• Willing to work in physically demanding conditions including heat, confined spaces, and at height.
• Committed to following procedures and maintaining high safety standards.

About You

• Physically fit and able to work in demanding environments.
• Comfortable working in confined spaces, at height, in darkness, and in varying weather conditions.
• Comfortable wearing breathing apparatus and other safety equipment.
• Safety focused, reliable, and able to remain calm under pressure.
• Strong attention to detail and communication skills.
• Previous experience in fire safety, emergency response, military, industrial, or security environments is beneficial but not essential
