Software Architect

  • Full-time

Company Description

The racing world is not just exciting; it brings communities together across the state. Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) are at the centre of this world and more than 24,000 people choose to join us in our quest to forge a sustainable future for racing in WA.

As well as controlling thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing in Western Australia, RWWA operates the TAB which has more than 300 off-course retail outlets, a call centre and online betting services. Our motto is Better Your Bet because increasing profits through Western Australia’s own TAB means better returns for the local racing sector and state-wide communities.

Our business is unique, which means we can offer careers which are interesting, challenging and diverse. Our values are important to us so; to be successful, you’ll have to share them. We are honest, real and positive and we pride ourselves on achieving great outcomes for our customers. We work hard but have fun while we’re doing it. Whatever your passion, our success is a team sport.

Job Description

As a Software Architect, you'll leverage your strong technical foundation and exceptional people skills to design and collaboratively implement software solutions with multiple engineering teams. Your solutions will span internal applications, common development platforms, third-party integrations, and product features - but your real impact will come through the relationships you build and the teams you inspire.

Your primary customers are Team Leads and Software Architects within our Technology Division, and you'll partner closely with Engineering Managers to shape technical architecture and roadmaps.

This isn't about being the smartest person in the room - it's about making everyone else smarter.

Your Mission:

  • Be a bridge-builder: Use your soft skills to facilitate meaningful connections between technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Lead through influence: Support development teams by inspiring and guiding rather than directing - your natural leadership will drive change
  • Align vision with reality: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure technical solutions truly serve business objectives
  • Shape the future: Participate in architectural decisions and contribute to our overall technical strategy
  • Document with purpose: Create technical documentation that actually helps people - architecture diagrams, design patterns, and standards that teams love to use
  • Drive continuous improvement: Evolve our development processes, CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, and deployment strategies
  • Be proactive: Identify and mitigate technical risks before they become problems
  • Scout new possibilities: Evaluate emerging technologies and methodologies that could benefit our organisation

Qualifications

What we're looking for:

  • The Right Mindset:
    • Natural collaborator who influences through expertise and empathy, not hierarchy
    • Passionate about enabling others to do their best work
    • Thrives in complex, multi-stakeholder environments
    • Sees technology as a means to solve human problems
  • Technical Foundation:
    • Senior-level experience in complex application development, implementation, and support
    • Proven ability to provide design and coding leadership while fostering team growth
    • Hands-on experience with highly available, scalable, high-performance cloud solutions (AWS/Azure)
    • Strong proficiency in C#, .NET, TypeScript, and Python
    • Experience with modern web frameworks (React, Angular, or Vue)
    • Bonus points for React Native or native mobile development
  • Exceptional communication: You can explain complex concepts to anyone
  • Stakeholder management: You build trust and manage expectations naturally
  • Presentation skills: You inspire confidence when presenting to leadership
  • Team collaboration: You make everyone around you better

Additional Information

Why Join Us?

Ready to be the architect who builds not just systems, but also the people who build them?

At RWWA, we’re leading the way in building a culture of trust, transparency, and responsible information use. This is your opportunity to shape a newly created role, guide our readiness for landmark legislation, and leave a lasting impact on how information is safeguarded and shared across our organisation and industry.

Join us as a Software Architect where your success won't be measured by how much you know, but by how effectively you enable others to excel. This role is perfect for someone who combines deep technical expertise with exceptional people skills to drive meaningful change through influence rather than authority.

We offer:

  • Flexibility that works for you – hybrid work options, flexible hours, and the tools to work effectively anywhere.

  • A workplace built for people – brand-new offices with wellness spaces, end-of-trip facilities, and modern collaborative zones.
  • Recognition that matters – competitive remuneration, employee discounts, and reward programs that celebrate your achievements.
