Job Description

Summary:

The Director of e-Commerce Merchandising is responsible for the stewardship, merchandise performance and process for rue21’s flagship digital store. Strong understanding of web merchandising, digital marketing and planning/allocation processes are critical as this role will focus on speed to market for fast fashion and all the processes/reporting necessary to drive performance. Considerable experience in breadth and depth analysis is critical to accelerate turns, reduce market downs and maintain a high conversion rate representing stronger customer satisfaction. Well versed within the fast fashion category the Director of e-Commerce Merchandising will possess a strong history that involves driving data, decision making and can demonstrate/guide promotion cadences that find wins across gross margin dollars and rates that drive profitability. A strong collaborator is key, as this individual will work cross functionally with merchandising, planning, marketing, logistics and the store team.

Responsibilities:

  • Drive assortment guidance for size, color and fashion vs basic balance to the merchant teams and planners at time of purchase and provide real time feedback on performance to guide ongoing buys
  • Organize, run, analyze and report on product testing including on First Insight testing and react on new styles to influence omni buys, pricing and promotions
  • Develop demand plans at super division and department/class level that works seamlessly with digital marketing team plans
  • Monitor in stock levels and performance, cross reference within transit reporting to identify gaps in assortment and drive
  • Work with merchants to chase high performing items and develop out strategies low performing items
  • Develop forward looking promotional cadence that support strong turn, margin dollars, margin rate and includes interim market down strategies.
  • Provide direction digital channel managers including email, SMS, social and outbound marketing for their use in the development of channel messages and omni marketing calendar based on seasonal relevance, consumer insights, importance of categories, and merchandise investment
  • Share actionable weekly reporting of results, observations, and recommendations that will advance the business
  • Support and improve processes of merchandise selection for digital photo shoots working alongside Divisional VPs based on buy insights and business needs
  • Serve as a digital expert for competitive landscape and fast competitors for merchandise and merchandising experiences
  • Support site experience team with product recommendations for home page, category landing pages, product landing pages
  • Partner with logistics team to ensure all merchandise with distribution center inventory is available for sale and troubleshoot gaps
  • Spearhead coordination for Speed to Market Initiative with merchandising team to continue the development of rue21 as a leader in fashion
  • Explore possibilities and develop product assort expansion for digital property in accordance with brand guidelines and in elevating flagship store choices for customer

(This position will be held in Pittsburgh, PA or Los Angeles, California depending on canddiate needs) 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Fashion Merchandising, or related field
  • 7+ years of buying, planning or web retail merchandising
  • Experience/familiarity with Digital marketing tools and 3rd parties
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including strong MS Excel skills
  • Ability to learn computer programs quickly (RBI, Google Analytics, Maple Lake/planning tools)
  • Ability to adapt well to change in direction and priority in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment
  • Strong, professional and effective verbal and written communication skills
