Job Description

The Benefits Department Leader manages the strategic design, implementation and administration of the benefits and leave programs across the U.S. while ensuring the plans are cost effective and comply with all applicable federal and state regulations and provisions.

  • Foster a positive team environment through managing and coaching a team of benefits specialists
  • Responsible for planning and administering the day-to-day operations of group benefits programs (group health, dental, vision, short term/long term disability, life insurance, flexible spending, health savings, Employee Assistance Program)
  • Resolve complex benefit issues concerning health, dental, vision, group life, optional life plans, flexible benefits, leave policies and retirements plans
  • Responsible for managing vendor relationships, evaluate benefit plan design, handle contract negotiation, ensure accuracy of benefit billings, reimbursement recovery, and benefit budgeting.
  • Manage compliance with applicable regulations and provisions as required by city, state and federal laws, such as the Internal Revenue Service, Department of Labor, and other regulatory agencies. This includes, ERISA, HIPAA, ACA and COBRA as well as 5500 and 1094/1095 filings
  • Communicate benefit programs to associates through a variety of methods including presentations and question and answer sessions
  • Subject matter expert on Leave administration, to include FMLA, ADAAA, Paid Family Leave.  Provide guidance to the Benefits Specialist on eligibility, leave monitoring, and FMLA time tracking
  • Manage annual enrollment to include creating and circulating communications, conducting benefit meetings, system configuration and testing in ADP, auditing Evidence of insurability, overseeing eligibility file feeds, and confirming enrollment and payroll deductions have been properly applied
  • Responsible for ensuring the 401K plan operates in accordance with plan documents and ERISA compliance; reconciliation of bi-weekly contributions/loan payments, perform annual compliance testing, and prepare 5500 filings
  • Perform plan audits - Prepare, collect and organize data for assessments

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field
  • 7+ years' benefits administration experience including leave management and 401K experience
  • In depth knowledge of federal and state regulations relating to benefit plans and leave management, Specifically FMLA, ADAAA, ACA, IRS, DOL, ERISA, HIPAA and COBRA
  • 3+ years prior managerial/supervisor experience
  • Experience managing external vendor and broker relationships
  • Prior retail experience preferred
  • High degree of proficiency in MS Office Suite, with advanced skills in excel functionality: pivot tables, v-lookups etc.
  • Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, and presentation skills
  • Ability to operate independently while establishing strong working relationships with co-workers and cross-functional teams
  • Ability to work with and influence senior management
  • Strong, professional and effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to foster a positive and motivating work environment, encouraging feedback and innovation
  • Self-motivated with critical attention to detail and deadlines
  • Ability to adapt well to change in direction and priority in a fast- paced and deadline-oriented environment
