Job Description

The Creative Director will provide leadership, creative direction and inspiration to rue21. This role will lead concept, design and execution of all marketing needs for the brand. The Creative Director will be responsible for seasonal campaign development, photo art direction, window and in-store signage, direct mail, print advertising, email, digital marketing, and rue21.com.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver creative marketing solutions that drive strategy to support merchandising, marketing and branding goals 
  • Drive innovation in all aspects of job: creative execution, user experience, marketing tactics, workflows and organizational structure 
  • Define direction for all seasonal campaigns and marketing projects including: branded promotions, charitable initiatives, direct mail, retail and product packaging & labeling, PR look books and events, new store marketing collateral and signage, store set window graphics, store set sign packages, email, social media, digital marketing and the website
  • Conceptualize and supervise all creative for in-store and rue21.com assets
  • Ensures that the integrity of the brand is present in all facets of the digital experience while supporting e-commerce business goals 
  • Oversee creative for online and offline advertising, photography and ownership of lifestyle and product images 
  • Manage team of associates to deliver projects on time, on budget and brand appropriate; constantly evaluate resources and accountabilities within dynamic retail environment 
  • Ensure growth and learning of the individuals on the creative team; provide real time feedback and coaching
  • Oversee budget responsibilities for creative services expenses such as freelance employee costs, training, travel and other team expenses 
  • Push creativity and explore new ways to craft unique solutions that reflect and evolve the brand 
  • Provide forward-thinking creative leadership 
  • Inspire creative collaboration across the organization and collaborate with cross functional teams on branding strategy 
  • Execute creative strategy based on corporate initiatives established by executive leadership
  • Partner and collaborate with the Manager of Brand Photography in developing photo art direction and choosing casting and location selections for lifestyle photo shoots
  • Lead brainstorming meetings, guide creative development of multiple directions for the seasonal look-and-feel and art direction
  • Stay current with competitive landscape, emerging trends and site metrics to inform work 
  • Complete all projects and duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, art, graphic design, communication, or other related field
  • 7-10 years' design experience in retail environment as well experience managing the creative process
  • Demonstrate strong creative instincts balanced with very solid strategic and analytical capabilities
  • Prior specialty retail experience  
  • Proven people management and leadership skills 
  • Proven ability to work with and influence senior management
  • Strong analytical, prioritizing, interpersonal, problem-solving, and presentation skills
  • Ability to operate independently while establishing strong working relationships with co-workers and cross-functional teams
  • Ability to adapt well to change in direction and priority in a fast- paced and deadline-oriented environment
