Job Description

The Sr. Merchandise Planner will focus on the day-to-day management of the business and the development of the merchandise planning process and team.  This individual will work closely with the Buying and Allocation teams to develop and review assortment plans and manage OTB strategies.  The Sr. Merchandise Planner/Director of Planning will be a major contributor to the development of the overall Planning organization, and to help implement a process and infrastructure that will support the rapid growth of the overall organization.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development and maintenance of merchandise plans for several divisions of product and ensure their accuracy and timeliness
  • Make recommendations to the Buying team on product receipt and liquidation strategies    
  • Ensure delivery of the financial objectives of each area through accurate and proactive management and forecasting of sales, mark-up and markdowns.
  • Develop and deliver merchandise analysis to inform and guide executive decision making, including weekly markdown decisions and promotional events
  • Partner with Allocation on the timing and quantity of new and existing product to flow into the stores
  • Support the department’s weekly reporting needs
  • Ensure that the open-to-buy is up-to-date, and Buying has accurate open purchase quantities
  • Manage and develop a team of Merchandise Planners, and participate in the broader cross-functional management team

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Finance
  • 5-10 years' experience in Planning and/or Allocation, with a minimum of 5 years planning experience
  • Prior managerial/supervisor experience
  • Technical knowledge in PC based systems and application software (systems like: JDA Allocation, Arthur Planning, MMS and/or Island Pacific are useful)
  • Prior retail experience preferred
