Job Description

RESPEC is seeking an experienced Database Developer to support a public-sector technology initiative for the Minnesota Department of Information Technology Services (MNIT) in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Corrections. This is a full-time contract consulting opportunity supporting a mission-critical enterprise data environment.

In this role, you will help modernize, maintain, and optimize enterprise database solutions that support transactional applications, reporting platforms, data conversion, and operational decision-making. You will work across the data lifecycle—from ingestion and transformation through migration, validation, reporting, and production support—to ensure that enterprise data is accurate, reliable, secure, and performant.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain SQL Server databases, including stored procedures, views, indexes, SQL scripts, and supporting database components.
  • Build and optimize ETL pipelines and data workflows using SSIS, SQL Server, Python, and/or PySpark.
  • Lead or support large-scale data conversion and migration efforts, including data cleansing, transformation, validation, reconciliation, and quality assurance.
  • Develop data ingestion and transformation processes across raw, staging, curated, and analytics data layers.
  • Create and maintain logical and physical data models, including entity relationship diagrams (ERDs), for application and reporting needs.
  • Build and support reporting solutions using SSRS and Power BI.
  • Diagnose and resolve database performance issues; tune SQL queries, stored procedures, indexing strategies, and database workloads.
  • Provide production support, including participation in on-call support as business needs require.
  • Partner with technical and business stakeholders through Agile ceremonies, code reviews, development activities, releases, and knowledge-transfer activities.

Qualifications

Required Technical Experience

10+ Years of Experience

Candidates should bring 10 or more years of experience in database development, data engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.

Technical Background:

Candidates should have demonstrated experience with:

  • Microsoft SQL Server, T-SQL development, and database performance tuning.
  • Designing, developing, and maintaining stored procedures, SQL scripts, views, indexes, and database components.
  • ETL development using SSIS, Python, PySpark, or a combination of these technologies.
  • Enterprise data migration, conversion, cleansing, transformation, and validation.
  • Data modeling, database design, and data integration practices.
  • ·upporting production applications and resolving database performance or operational issues.
  • SSRS and Power BI reporting solutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience supporting high-availability or business-critical applications in a government, financial, or legal environment is strongly preferred.

Working knowledge of DevOps and source-control tools—such as Azure DevOps, GitHub, or Jenkins—is also preferred. Candidates who have worked successfully in Agile delivery environments and can communicate effectively across technical and business teams will be especially well suited for this role.
