We are looking for a US Sports Reporter to join our US newsroom team, working from the comfort of your home here in the UK!

Reporting to the US Sports Editor and Deputies, you will work across all of our major US titles; Mirror US, Express US, Irish Star & Liverpool.com, concentrating on US content. Working alongside a team of dedicated Sports reporters in the UK & US, you will write stories for our brands with a focus on US Sports and help to grow our audience.

Since the start of 2023, we have been building out our US operation, headquartered at 200 Liberty St, New York. We’ve launched three standalone brands in the Mirror US, Express US and the Irish Star, covering news, sport, entertainment, politics and lifestyle - all targeted at US audiences.

Job Description

We’re looking for a remote journalist who can tap into the US sports audience and drive growth through compelling, high-impact content. You’ll produce multiple stories a day while actively chasing exclusives and original pieces, using social media to both share and aggregate stories. You thrive on breaking news, getting snaps live within minutes, and you can operate independently from your home base with fast, clean copy and sharp judgment.

You’ll join our virtual newsroom, bringing ideas that shape the daily agenda and collaborating with a distributed team of passionate sports fans. You buy into our tabloid DNA and the product we’re building in the United States. We celebrate wins, encourage initiative, and communicate clearly across digital channels. You’re comfortable working autonomously, becoming a dependable presence on the remote desk, and maintaining a keen awareness of our rivals and the wider competitive landscape.

Shift Patterns & Working Location

This is a remote role and requires the successful candidate to be based in & have the right to work in the United Kingdom.

The standard shift pattern for this role is Monday to Friday from 7am to 3pm GMT. 

1 in 2 weekend shifts are required, but you will receive days back in lieu. A level of flexibility is required in this role, as shifts are open to last minute changes as a result of major sporting events.

Rotas are completed approximately 6 weeks in advance.

Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate with expert knowledge of US sports, ranging from national to college and even high school levels, along with a solid understanding of all sports. This role is perfect for a storyteller eager to engage new audiences, foster growth, and drive audience numbers.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to work efficiently and produce multiple articles daily while maintaining the accuracy and standards expected of a national publication. You must be able to thrive under pressure, delivering breaking news quickly and effectively.

You should have the keen ability to identify newsworthy stories and present them in a way that aligns with our brand, as well as the talent to produce exclusive and original content. Flexibility is key, as this role requires working various shifts, including weekends, evenings, and bank holidays, with the possibility of attending events or games as needed.

Additionally, you should have an affinity for data, with a willingness to track and analyse audience numbers. A self-starter attitude with a proactive approach is essential to succeed in this dynamic environment.
